RhysP
It's a very common sight at Rush gigs.
andydye
I do it quite often much more often than air bass or air guitar in fact
pst62
I've witnessed this in many a rock club in my youth Thin Lizzy's Chinatown always seems to get arms flailing, (and pints spilling) something to do with the frequent passages of triplets I suppose. I've even heard the excuse that doing it is a good cardiovascular work out, but hey, I'm no medical expert. Hope this helps anyone planning on taking up this rather funny spectacle. BobVbass
yes seen this a few times - I remember a chap at a motley crue concert nearly knocking out half the audience in Tommy Lee's solo!

flyfisher
OK, perhaps I should have clarified my point . . . . which was air-drumming along to a drawing of a drum kit.

chrisba
Those who were around when Phil Collins's In The Air Tonight first came out will all remember air drumming...
Muzz
There used to be a bloke (I forget his name) who went to the rock clubs in Manchester in the 80s (Jillys, The Phoenix, UMIST, Rockworld, etc) who did air-drummed/headbanged all night on the dance floor, and would do it at gigs, too. mike257
I air drum/table drum/steering wheel drum constantly, it's a compulsion. Drives the family nuts, but focuses me on rhythm and has made me a better drummer (and all round musician, hopefully) for doing it. The missus will often pull me up before I've even realised I'm playing along. I upset the kids even more today when they were playing Guitar Hero and I was sat behind them on the sofa with a Telecaster playing along to all the songs! seashell
I am an air multi instrumentalist. I can play all sorts of instruments, and conduct an orchestra! :-D But I try not to do it in public.
