geoffbyrne
Can anyone point me in the direction of a circuit diagram/pictures of the original Yamaha TRB 5 string pre? Ta. G.
Myke
What's the issue you're having?
geoffbyrne
The original has been replaced. I'll be getting it soon & may wish to revert. Currently the solo'd pups are not humbucking - I was lead to believe there were dummy coils etc. Just need to know more, really. G.
ikay
Can't find a service manual for the TRB series I but the TRB series II manual (with circuit diagram) can be found here: http://www.yamaha.co...B5II_5IIF_E.pdf TRB5P series I circuit diagramd and parts list can be found here: http://s55.photobuck...rb456p.jpg.html http://s55.photobuck...56pcmp.jpg.html This post on TB is about pickup wiring for the TRB 1005 and mentions a dummy coil. Not sure if this is relevant to the series I or your particular issue: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f38/yamaha-trb-1005-aguilar-preamp-wiring-issues-572756/ Realise none of this is what you really need but on the offchance it may be of some help. Myke
Oh. Unfortunately this isn't an area of expertise for me so I can't really help out. If you need photos I might be able to get some for you
geoffbyrne
Many thanks for the info & pointers to those who've replied. Once I have the original, I'll decide what I'm going to do. I'm not sure if I should revert, as I've read the original pre was a bit noisey. G.

geoffbyrne
Myke, do your pickups hum when solo'd? G.
ikay
The pre on my series 1 is fine, maybe just a tiny bit of hiss when treble is fully boosted, otherwise quiet. Pickups definitely don't hum when solo'd. Only thing which is a bit of an acquired taste with the series 1 pre is the three position mid switch rather than a sweepable mid. I tend to leave it in the mid boost position and use the pickup blend to adjust how it sits in the mix.
Myke
No they don't. It hisses a little when the treble is boosted but that is all apart from the hum I mentioned before.

geoffbyrne
Right. My pups hum a bit when solo'd. I'm assuming this is because they are not attached to the original pre. It's a Delano that's in it at he mo. I don't have issues with the tonality of it - it's fine, it's just the humming of the pups that's annoying me. I *was* sitting just in front of the amp, tho' - rehearsal room. G.
geoffbyrne
OK, I have the original pre & I wired it in, switched it on and ........ nothing. Has anyone got a pic showing where everything is connected? Particularly what /how is connected to the black wire coming off the board just to the right of the volume pot? G. geoffbyrne
OK, I've made a mockup - black from board & earth leads fro pickups to ground. It worked with the Red to Tip and White to Ring. My cavity(!) isn't shielded, so I have to take all earths to the socket pin. Again, many thanks for the help. It looks like I'll get the Old Dear back to original spec, then I may put it up for sale. geoffbyrne
Many thanks to you, Ian for the photos, and to Ou7shined for fixing the ribbon cable. Without both of you this wouldn't be working again. Geoff.
