topcat3355
Had this bass for years and have never found out what kind of wood it is made out of! Anyone know what it is?
BassBus
The body, I take it that's what it is, has the same sort of grain pattern and colouring as my Yamaha BB1100S which has an Alder body. Neck I would imagine is Maple but I couldn't tell you what the stripe is.
stingrayPete1977
I'd say poplar body? Alder looks more like the pine table to my eyes. Maple neck but quite low grade (graded in A's I think? The more A's the better with a tighter grain ending with birdseye?). Skunk stripe, no idea actual skunk maybe!
stingrayPete1977
Stripe could be rosewood actually, too dark for walnut?
topcat3355
Yeah the one on the left is is the body, the one on the right is the neck
White Cloud
Had this bass for years and have never found out what kind of wood it is made out of! Anyone know what it is?
To be honest, as a furniture maker...this is a minefield as wood identification in these circumstances is extremely difficult. My guess would be that the body is either a low grade Alder or maybe a Basswood....but it could be any of quite few different species. The neck is certainly Maple and the stripe could be any one of the myriad of relatively cheap, dark exotic hardwoods on the market (for example Yamaha use a Mahogany sub "Nato" on cheaper BB necks). Board will be Rosewood.
