Flats question

I bought a cheap Stagg fretless from ebay earlier this year just to see how I got on without frets (and rather liked it). I have another bass with Fender flats on, but the Stagg has very smooth flats on, and I'd like some help to identify the make please.
So: much smoother than Fender flats, and wound at the tuner end in black silk. Sorry it's not a lot of info, but any guesses would be welcome.
