sirmuppet
Hi all. Not sure but I'm guessing this would be the best place to ask or show the issue I have. I recently bought a Fender Dirnt bass (Not from anyone on here). It was described a having some cosmetic dings from gigging. When it arrived I agreed it had this but instantly I noticed the frets. There were small chunks missing from all over the fret board right next to the frets, The frets were pretty flat like it had been dresses but not evenly and looking down the side of the neck there is portions missing. To me the bass looked like it had a refret which wasn't mentioned. After looking at the frets for a minute I was positive. Whoever did it didn't cut the frets correctly. For instance one fret will be as wide as the fret board, the next will be 3mm in from the edge and the next fret will be again to the edge so it goes big small big. They're not seated correctly and it looks like a really poor job has been done. I'm just wondering what everyone else thinks. Am I over reacting or does it indeed look like poor work? It certainly wasn't mentioned that it had a refret and the guy has admited he forgot to mention it but he's now gone quiet and I'm starting to worry a bit. Here's some pics of it: What does everyone think then? Thanks, G.
KiOgon
I'd be wanting my money back for sure! That looks like a real bodge job by someone who hasn't got a clue how to - or he let his dog do it & he chewed it a bit
Acebassmusic
Looks like a bad refret job to me as you can see where the fretboad wood has been lifted when pulling the old ones out. I guess the frets have been cut to length before fitting and not long enough to be trimmed / dressed afterwards. Also the crowns have been ground pretty flat in places. I wouldnt be too happy with this
sirmuppet
Yeah pretty much what I thought guys. just didn't know if I was over-reacting or not. Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks it's bad. He did get back in touch and offered to pay whatever is cost me to repair. Have told him that I won't pay it. He either needs to or take it back. It's really not worth his time paying for a refret or new fretboard on a bass of this value as a good job would cost more than half of what it cost me. Cheers for the help. Hopefully I get my money back without issue and can start looking for something else....
