Mojohand 442 vs 443

So a little bit of background first, the Mojohand 442 (red) or bass version, previously known as the Boomstick Bottom Feeder and before that the Tone Factor 442 Bass/Red (the red is a misnomer because they aren't all red, mainly due to all the custom coloured ones I've owned over the years) has been my favourite filter since it's creation. Now it's based on the Dod 440 Filter pedal and that is what the original Tone Factor 442 was, a simple clone of the Dod the Red/Bass version was born out of my discussions with Tone Factor at the time and was initially a custom project for me that then went on to be part of their product line. So when I say this is the filter for me, it really is, it was built for me with me in mind and then it just seemed a good idea to sell them to everyone else.

So I've had a 442 in one shape or form on my board for god knows, 7+ years? and it has been my go to filter, it's not the most crazy, feature packed funky filter but it is the most musical and its been the only filter I've been able to use in a band situation over sitting in my music room pretending I'm Bootsy Collins.

So basically I'm a die hard 442 fan and have just taken a punt on the 443 because, well why not.

I'll expand this thread over time when I get a bit more of time with the pedal but thought I would post my experiences so far.

So the 443, is the same shape and size as the 442, so standard small mxr size, still 9vdc etc everything you'd expect from a boutique pedal, the main difference is 3 knobs over 2.

So because it's got 3 knobs over 2 knobs its more complicated (gotta be, more knobs you see) and the other thing that comes into play here is they are completely different pedals. The 443 is not based on the Dod 440, there is no specific bass model as the frequency range is wide enough for both bass and guitar.

So that's the initial the 443 is not an upgraded 442, its a different pedal. Tonally they are similar I can easily dial in my 442 tones, it doesn't suck low end but then I can go beyond the 442 by using the resonance knob, but it's still in that more subtle filtering sounds that you're use to with the 442.

It can get a lot deeper and also treblier than the 442, so you can get a real high rasp to the filter, or as I found for the first time in any other filter, the dub sounds I've been using a Dod FX25 for. This really surprised me that I could get such a full and dubby sound, I'm going to A/B the two soon as I'd much rather have something as robust as the 443 on a board over my FX25.

So I think that's about all I have for now, different pedals, same camp but you could easily justify owning both and even having both on the same board.

I also took delivery of a Subdecay Prometheus Deluxe so they're all fighting for their lives at the moment :bassist:

I had your old black 442 at one point, didn't know about the new one but would love to give one a go! My Sonuus Wahoo covers every filter sound imaginable but sometimes I want something more portable for the mini board, hence I just picked up an AMT mini bass wah.
