Does anyone around here have any experience on MIM Fender Jazz Basses in mid 90's era? I have a chance to buy one. It's in pretty good condition just a few scratches on the body nothin serious. Are 90's MIM's better than the new ones? Sorry for my English.

MIM fenders are a mixed bag and always have been and I own four!. Some are fantastic and some are awful. If you can, you really should to try it out before buying it. The issue on the bad ones I have tried tend to be gaps around the neck joint and poor fret ends.

Yep, mid 90`s MIM`s can be great or crap. Defo a try before you buy. I would say, in general, that the "new" post 2010 standards seem to be better than previous MIM`s.

How do you date your MiM Jazz Basses? I have one and would like to know when it was made. I acquired it in about 2006, and it has the little 60th anniversary metal badge stamped on the back of the headstock. I'm only assuming it's a 2005-2006 but I'd just like to know out of interest.

I understand there's some websites that offer a rough guide but is there any way to know just by looking? i.e, certain serial number digits indicate a certain year, etc.
