thedontcarebear Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Anyone use their 5 strings like that? And can anyone recommend any strings that come with a high c, nickel plated though! Cheers. Quote
Steve_K Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 I have my 5er set up as EADGC, awesome. I use Status Hotwire 25-100 strings, double ball - though they are available as single ball strings too. Quote
Josh Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 (edited) I had my old 5 string set up this way and it was a welcome change and you can get nickel plated D'addario 6 string sets, so you can always have a spare B lurking around if you ever need to converse with some bowel movements. I got my D'addario's from www.stringbusters.com Edited June 24, 2007 by Josh Quote
Alpha-Dave Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Overwater (0.028, 0.032) or DR Sunbeams (0.030) for me as they both make round-wound nickel plated strings. Quote
Mikey D Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 (edited) I have actually just bought a fretless with the sole purpose of tuning it like this, after a couple of days I really think this could become my main bass and set up. I usually play fretted 6, but I found that I don't really use the B that much and it tends to flap a little, thus 5 tuned high c. Warwick Black Label They are stainless steel High C (.020" .040" .060" .080" .100"), but I recently bought a couple of sets for my fretless and am really enjoying them. They come across as a bit rougher than some strings at first, but have a great sound. They are also fairly cheap from Thomann.de. However, you can get a set of Warwick Yellow Label 5-string Set M,* High C (.025" .045" .065" .085" .105") which are Nickel. I don't know who stocks them though, but Thomann do the 6 string set for about £13.50!
