jim_bass Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 What a bummer. Just went onto his site to see about getting a set of jazz pickups. (Been putting it off for about a year) Oh well best of luck to him. Quote
warwickhunt Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013
What a bummer.
Buy my Roadworn Jazz and steal the Wizards out of that... then sell it on with your pups installed; as good as a free set of Wizards! Quote
Minty Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 A total shame! I found out a few weeks ago whilst trying to find Andy's email address on the site. The P in my Big P/J combo didn't have an even output across the board...although it does seem alright again right now. Maybe just a loose wire. They sound amazing when working right!! Very dark and heavy...especially when pushed through a mess of over-driven tube amps and an old Russian Big Muff like here! matybigfro Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Love the sound on that Track minty, makes me wish I could still get hold of a WizPup Quote
mart3442 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013
Out of interest, what happens to all the leftover stock? Surely there must be boxes of ready made pickups that we could still buy until he runs out, or was it a case of the pickups were made when you placed an order?
From my experience, Andy made pickups to order as and when required. He did all my rewinds though, anyone have recomendations on who to use now? Quote
cameltoe Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Happy with my Thumper. More grind than a standard P pickup, but doesn't sacrifice it's sweet spot in the mix to achieve it, as others tend to do. Quote

doomed Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 My Hammers and Thumper are great, shame I won't be able to get another set of Hammers for my VM Jazz though.. Quote
cameltoe Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Bareknuckle if you want to stay UK handmade, but significantly more expensive than Wizard were. Quote

Jonnyboy Rotten Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013
It's always such a shame when someone like Andy retires without someone to pass it all on to. All that knowledge and experience, all gone
Yeah you would have thought he would sell on the business or train up someone to take his place. His business is clearly worth a fair bit in good-will alone. It seems a shame it wasn't carried on. Oh well. Best of luck to him and his circumnavigation of the British isles! Quote
bassintheface Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Bummer to hear he's closed down! I bought a pair of 84's for my Jazz in March and they are awesome. I'm not going to let them out of my sight now!! Quote

The Dark Lord Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 That's a cool goodbye message he has on the site. I bought a set of Strat pickups from them way back in the day. Good they were. Quote
mart3442 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Hope it was his decision. My association with Andy goes back to the days when he was working for Kent Armstrong, when Kent moved back to the 'States, he recommended Andy as his natural successor to all his customers. Andy got off to a great start as not only was his work on a par with Kents, (as you would expect, having worked alongside him for all those years) but he was also cheaper and remained cheaper than the majority of the competition until he retired. I mean: A J Bass vintage SET for the price of ONE pickup from certain other UK companies...... Good luck Andy, enjoy your retirement. Quote

Hot Rod (Wizard) Pickups Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Thanks very much guys, we have been working very hard hand in hand with Andy to respect his legacy and maintain his quality, We all have a background in the guitar industry and could have launched 6 months ago, but we have held off and invested the time (and money) needed to launch a product we are proud of. We also have facility for full custom builds (Eternal Guitars) and re-finishing in our bespoke spray facility. Quote
