someone suggested that he was older than that at the time, (genetic thing), but whether there was any truth in that, who knows ..

Cant stand the first bit though. I cant understand why bass players feel the need to do that, other than to impress non bass players.

No doubt he is a great bassist and deserves all the credit he gets.

However, the music on the clip seems to be more about technique/chops with little in the way of relating to an audience.

I could not relate to it. YMMV.
