People who wear guitars up high like they're pretending they're in the beatles. Also, the beatles.

Oh god, 5 string Ps or Js, they look f***ing vile.

Guitar straps with skulls or any of that voodoo sh*t on.

Traben bridges. Are you f***ing twelve? :)

Left handed basses, they just don`t look right and when lefties play right hand basses upside down.

Not trying to be "leftist" or "rightest" you understand :D

And when people don`t trim the ends of their strings

Yes! They should be strangled with them and given a fiver for a pair of pliers. Oooh I hate that, it's not punk, it's just damn ugly and careless.

P/J configurations -- they never seem to be like either.

Foderas. Owned one-- sold it. Nice and solid feeling but zero tone, even with 3 pu changes and a pre-amp change. They also look dorky.

Yeah, white pickguards look cheap.

Every Warwick I've ever played felt stiff to me.

Sadowsky's. Good basses but I just can't justify the price.

Most effects pedals -- they just compromise the original signal too much.

Aquilla heads. They have 20 knobs that don't do anything.

SWR heads. No way are they the wattage they claim.

Light rosewood fingerboards. They just bug me. Rosewood should be a deep dark brown.

20, 22 or 24 frets. 21 is perfect.

Thunderbirds. Good luck finding one that's balanced.

Synthetic fingerboards are fine but synthetic necks feel like plastic.

Headless -- of course.

Fiesta Red -- It looks like the color of a toy to me.

Maple finish -- except with Rics, in which icase it's my favorite Ric color. Go figure.

Acoustic bass guitars. You can''t hear them from 2 feet away and once they're amped they sound like an electric, but not as good.

Electric uprights -- neither fish nor fowl.

Obvious splits in the body wood grain. Yuck.

Lakelands -- for some reason I'm never drawn to play one.

18" speakers -- slow response and muddy.

Vintage Modified -- any way you slice it, they're cheap basses. The CV however are outstanding. They're not in the same league.

Boutique Ibanez's -- the SR is a great bass for $500. The Prestige is the same bass for $1500.00

Ultra fancy finishes. It looks like you're trying too hard.

That's off the top of my head. I'm sure I can think of more . Give me time.

Okay, one more. And this really is irrational...

Strap locks.

They make sense. I should use them. But I refuse to . I don't know why.

Ashdown is one of mine as well. Whenever i see one i think i bet that will sound wooly. When in actual fact i have only played through a couple of their lower end heads and cabs. I think we all like to pretend we know more than we actually do.

Everything made by Fender, guitars, basses, amps everything. The basses - they look like a big guitar with the proportions all wrong, the sort of instrument that is played played by a "bass guitarist" like in the Shadows. Generally I hate all bases with large head stocks and/or tuning pegs. Also hate the aesthetics of Ampeg amps and speakers (although I do own an SVP preamp) although they arn't quite as bad as Ashdown which look like they belong in a flash gordon era space ship. Infact I hate anything that looks remotely vintage.

'Irrational' means with no logical reason. A lot of these are based on "don't like the look/sound/weight" which are perfectly logical reasons.

Non rectangular hard shell cases

That's more like it. That's f***ing bonkers :-D

My irrational dislike is when certain people keep creating 'bass guitar' threads in General Discussion grrrrrrrrr

All music company merchandise, caps, t-shirts, polo shirts god forbid. All that horrible wearable sh*t. I mean WHO the f*** would be seen in a Warwick baseball cap? (I have one somewhere) A Hartke tee-shirt? An Alleva-Coppolo skirt?

You're pretty f***ed then aren't you?

No - I've got a P bass. By 'offset body' I mean one that's asymmetrical at the base (not the horns) and won't rest on a stand properly.
Like the Jazz and other types of body.

LEDs in a bass. if I wanted a Christmas tree I'd have gone to a garden centre.

God, yes.
And have you noticed that people with LED markers are insufferably smug about them, like they've done something clever?

My 'irrational' dislike of Barefaced cabs is based on the fact that I think they look cheap nasty - people (on Basschat anyway) keep telling me that they sound great but I just can't get past the look.

As they are speaker cabs designed to sound good I find my dislike based on looks to be, at least partly, irrational :)

Like having to look where their hands are. They are like toilet seats, so you know you got your sh*t in the right place. The French don't need all that lark, you stand up and aim properly. Most French basses don't even have dots on the board. People need to learn how to do their sh*t properly.
