Sub_Drop
I've only just discovered them but they look amazing in my opinion. Has anyone ever played or tested one out? I'm thinking of testing one and wondered what the majority thought about them? The Brubaker Brute MJX 5 is the model I want to try out. image - http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_gui...C5NatFront.jpg info - http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_gui...5_Natural.html
visog
Check out the Malcolm Hall vids on YT. I'm not sure of the model to which you refer but as a whole they sound amazing... Good luck...
apa
They do indeed look very nice and a reasonable price to. But whats going on with that scratch plate? it looks like bookmatched flame but you can see the body grain underneath!! Intreaging A
molan
I must admit that pick guard is really not doing it for me I've played one though and thought it was nice. Didn't blow me away with the character of the US custom models but there's a lot of nice instruments coming out of Korea (i think that's where these are made) these days. Sub_Drop
Cheers for all the replies. Mixed opinions it seems. I might have to test one out as I've got urges to buy a lot of different basses at the moment

Im interested in what that scratch plate is made of because it looks cool A
Roland Rock
I think it's a flame maple veneered scratch plate with a burst finish, ie black paint sprayed around the border, a bit like the Fender Antigua finish

TomRichards
Hello everyone, and yes, I am here. Feel free to email me at for any and all information on the Brute basses. If you live in the UK, you can find them at Bass Direct. Mark just received the latest production. You can also see them on his website. Thanks for the interest! shizznit
I played a Brute the last time I visited the US. For the money, they are very hard to beat. Their appearance won't please everyone, but there is a distinct high quality feel to them, they play very well and above all else sound fantastic. I really like them and its great that Mark @ Bass Direct is the go to man in the UK for these basses...it's been a long time coming! I recommend these basses all day. BassHertz
@TomRichards. Are there any plans for some left handed models in the future?
TomRichards
Yes. Working on the production of them as we speak.
TomRichards
Should be some at Bass Central near Orlando (Beaver Felton's place) by then.
Grand Wazoo
Tried them at the last London Bass show, very comfortable to play and certainly an array of usable sounds for the money, the most interesting feature most peole overlooks, and one that set these apart is the way the neck joins the body almost all the way to the centre of the body, the rep who was there told me it offers the best compromise in tonal rendition between a bolt on and a fixed neck. Surely if you are close by Bass Direct, try them, I am planning to try them there too sometimes because sadly at the show.... couldn't hear much of it due to the show noise. hoiho
the most interesting feature most people overlooks, and one that set these apart is the way the neck joins the body almost all the way to the centre of the body, the rep who was there told me it offers the best compromise in tonal rendition between a bolt on and a fixed neck.
Interestingly, that technique was used in the (very) late Shergolds. Very few of them were made, however.
