Highfox Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 It's a classic imo. I much prefer the older Burst style with more yellow in it, like some of WoT's. I have 2 relatively new bursts, in a P and J flavour, they are both pretty dark bursts. Quote
skej21 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) Sunburst + white pick guard = Cheap Argos starter pack cliche Sunburst + Tort pick guard = Classic combo Just my opinion though! Edited August 16, 2013 by skej21 Quote
fumps Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I can see why people like them but I'm not a fan personally It's just not my thing Quote
Adrenochrome Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Not my thing but no hate at all from me either. WoT's with the tort pickguards do look 'right' and fit the general sorts of music he plays so there's an example where it works. Quote
MattM Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) Never was a fan, particularly with white pick guards on Precisions and clones thereof. Then I bought my fretless 'Ray from a local dude who's a Pino fan... Edited August 16, 2013 by MattM Quote
molan Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I keep buying sunburst basses and then selling them again I don't know what it is but it really doesn't do much for me. As someone with a pair of vintage Fenders (Olympic White P & Seafoam Green J) I must be one of the few who doesn't look at an old sunburst J or P & start drooling. Quote
Roger2611 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I miss my old sunburst Precision but probably won't buy another one, it looks good on a proper vintage P or J bass but I think it is the amount of white in the 3 ply tortie pick guards that make them look right Quote
Fionn Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Classic or Cliche? ... it's both. I used to hate it. I still do in almost all applications. That said, I lust for a Jazz Bass ... A sunburst Jazz Bass, tort, and rosewood. That's the classic implication which ooooozes the funk of the 70's (in my imagination, at least). Aye, both classic and cliche, to be sure. Quote
Skol303 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 (edited) Sunburst is both classic and cliched for me. It's lodged in my brain alongside 70s brown and orange home decor schemes for some bizarre reason. I had a sunburst bass (a cheap P copy) and I resprayed it. So I guess I'm not a fan ...but done well it can look classy. It's just not to my taste. Edited August 18, 2013 by Skol303 Quote

Grand Wazoo Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I like solid colours as well as sunburst, but I do admit sunburst looks better with maple fingerboards imho Quote
