shizznit Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Luckily on this occasion, the string has just made it to the nut once I tuned up, but I have had a few occasions whereby I have replaced my strings and the taper at the top hasn't made it to the nut. I get this problem with my 35" scale Lakland from time to time. But, with my regular 34" scale Warwick...surely not? Quote
ezbass Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) Oh God yes that's uber annoying! I discovered this when going through the body of my Lakland with normal long scale Elixr strings. However on a normal 34" scale it seems a bit odd. Is the tailpiece of your Warwick set back very far? I know some of the are. Edited August 16, 2013 by ezbass Quote
shizznit Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 Not really. I would say the string would have to travel further if I had to string through the body. I have bought a dodgy set of strings. It happens. Quote

Bolo Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 (edited) The taper not making it to the nut shouldn't affect your tone negatively. In fact there are string manufacturers that specialise in strings that taper off between bridge and nut. It facilitates a super low action setup! So it's a feature, not a flaw. Woodinblack Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 When I got my rickenfaker it was like that, except not quite like that, the step occurred half way to the first fret. So I got some replacement strings on an expensive replacement string month, when I got some DR Chromes for the fretless and some new ernie balls for the ibanez, I got some generic strings for the rock and the notch came just after the nut. Don't know why it is so short. Quote
