fuzzonaut Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Hi there just stumbled across an odd looking cab, it's a 3x15", and the owner claims it's good for guitar or bass, which I thought can't be the case. There are no hints on the cab (brand, etc.), so anybody got an idea? Bass or guitar? It's a very, very old cab, that's for sure. Thanks for any input. Edit: Opening it up an having a look at the speakers would surely help, but that's not possible right now. I just got the pic, not the cab. Quote
dincz Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 First impression - based on the size of the voice coils, the power rating is likely to be too low for serious use as a bass cab. Quote
Bill Fitzmaurice Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013
just stumbled across an odd looking cab, it's a 3x15", and the owner claims it's good for guitar or bass, which I thought can't be the case..
Judging by the small dust covers those drivers may be generic musical instrument drivers from the late 60s or early 70s, which were used for both guitar and bass. By modern standards they wouldn't work very well. Quote
Mr. Foxen Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Enough speaker there to be ok for bass, in oldschool terms, won't handle much power, doesn't need much power. Work ok for guitar too because drivers are probably guitar drivers for most purposes. Quote
fuzzonaut Posted August 17, 2013 Author Posted August 17, 2013 Thanks a lot for the input, old school and low power is ok, it could actually work for me then ... I just never heard of that format: 3x15". Quote
bertbass Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 If my memory serves me well, which it probably doesn't, that could be a Triumph cabinet. http://www.voxac100.org.uk/triumph.htm catalogue pictures half way down the page. Quote

KingBollock Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I take it you have seen the rather horrible looking tear in the top right speaker cone? Quote

And yes, I'm aware of the tear. The cab is on auction and currently my £15 bid is on top ... Quote

VTypeV4 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I'm wondering if those are Goodmans drivers? My Audiom 15-Ps have that big thick cork gasket on the front and also the edging looks similar but without the tear! Mine are rated for 50w each so I would expect those to be similar juding by the era.. Quote
fuzzonaut Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 Thanks again for the inputs. I won't find out though, oh well, there will be others .... Quote
fuzzonaut Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 ... for example a pair (!) of Dynacord D 520 ... hmm Quote
