Hello everyone,

Well, following on from my many other threads about gear at the moment i'm needing some help with power amps if that's ok...

I've just got my SVP-Pro pre-amp, so that's all sorted! Now i need some power, don't need anything silly, just enough to fill medium sized venues, so bars, clubs, music venues...erm, the odd festival (although i'd D.I). I need something that will help me get that awesome Ampeg tone out there.

I'd prefer a 1U power amp if at all possible, but i guess it's not essential. Price wise, i'm hoping to keep costs down. Dood's Powersoft would be awesome but too pricey unfortunately.

Hope some of you can give me some suggestions...

Thanks
Jamie

i pair up my ampeg svp-pro with a soundtech ps802 and i love it.

1U and ~16lbs.

the only down side is that the fans are quite loud, not an issue live, but noticeable at home.

I'm doing exactly the same thing at the moment for my SVP.

What's taken my eye is the Crown XTi series, which is 2u, but is switching so ridiculously light and a steal on ebay at the moment. (BIN prices)

Steve-soar had one with his SVP up until very recently.

(Shameless plug: unless you fancy buying a Studiomaster 1200D off me? I've got a couple knocking around gathering dust and haven't got around to selling them yet)

Hmm...that's interesting mate! Do you have the specs or rough pricing on how much one would be? Just googled it and can't find much!

Coasterbass: Pm me some details please mate!

Hi Jamie,

I have a Crest CA9 I'm looking to sell. Until recently I had it paired with an SVP-Pro and it sounded great - only selling because I've gone the lightweight route.

Bump for stickman's amp - the SVP and Crown sounded great together. (I'm the happy owner of his SVP thesedays)

I remain very impressed by my QSC PLX. Not sure on UK prices as I bought mine used in the US and had it serviced and converted to UK voltage by the factory but they're not hugely expensive for the weight and power. Also the Crown XTi amps are getting very favourable reviews for the price and the onboard DSP is a nice feature.

If you limit yourself to 1U amps the choice is much more restricted and often they require a deeper rackcase than a 2U model.

Warwickhunt was on the look out for someting similar here ......

I put forward my Peavey DPC750. Actually bought it thinking of pairing it with an SVP, but got carried away with other amps so it's never happened!

The amp is great - only problem (like most Peaveys) is the fan is a bit noisy for low volumes.

Thanks for the suggestions guys...

I've found one on Thomann that i'm quite interested in. Class D, ridiculous amounts of power, 1U and less than £400!!! Still...keeping all options open! 1U would be preferred though!

I've got one of these and it's great.
However I've since bought Warwickhunt's Black Cat amp which is even better! so I could be persuaded to let this go.
PM me if you are interested.
