jacs_
Hi, i recently bought a really cheap bass guitar from a friend (I'm a drummer but I'm a self taught bassist and guitarist) and it's simply black and white. As much as i like the look of the traditional black and white P-Bass, it's a little bit dull!! I'm thinking something along the lines of a different pick-guard or some special decals, I want it to still have a traditional "Rock n' Roll" look but still a little different... I'm thinking of getting a pick-guard like the image below but I'm unsure. Thank you for reading and feel free to drop any ideas to me :-)
lazybones
you got to count the screws and check thier position ,check were you adjust the neck some precisions adjust at bottom of neck ,so this one wouldnt do.three ply are best, some form of metal earth tape is found on the mexican pick gaurd at the rear, watch all the wires when you are screwing the plate back. Lozz196
Tort looks great with black, especially if the fretboard is rosewood, good choice.
jacs_
It gives such a better look to the black body right!? I can go to my local music store for it to be fitted so all i have to do is order! Thank you for the help and advice lazybones and Lozz196 :-)
Marvin
I replaced the white pg on my black precision with a tort one, looks bloody awesome now. However, as Lazybones has pointed out, you've got to make sure the screws are all in the right place and the pickup cut outs are correct. My old Squier has what seem to be over sized pickups, so a standard pickup cut out just doesn't fit. I had to modify the pg even then, after finding one that should have fitted. Also, get a sheet of adhesive copper foil and stick it on the back of the pg, I ripped the aluminium foil off the back of the one I bought...it didn't cover both pickup and control cavities. Paul S
For my own preference, black scratch plate on a black bass always looks best - I personally can't stand tort ones whether on black or sunburst but that's just me! I'd reckon whatever *you* like the look of is the one to get. Once you decide which colour you like there is a supplier on eBay somewhere that will send you a template of his scratch plates before you order, so you know what you are getting. Quite cheap, as well. There again a lot of people here use a fellow Basschatter, The Bass Doc, sending him the old one so it fits exactly. I will be doing this shortly, myself. jacs_
The only issue is that it turns out this bass is smaller than the usual Precision Bass' (An Encore junior model maybe?) is there anywhere to purchase pick-guards for smaller bass'?
