Interesting stroll through the Progmeister's bass inspirations...

I'm guessing that Entwistle's round-wound sound and Jamerson's immense melodic and harmonic vocabulary, combined with the Fish's chorister training made for the Bass God we all know and love. McCartney gave permission to be up-front and musical, so add a Rickenbacker and, hey presto, the mighty Squire.
