Thunderbird Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 The input jack on my amp is playing up cutting out and is crackly so I am going to order a new one now do I just order a standard size input jack? and secondly what is the best type of solder to use to make the repair? Many thanks in advance Quote
Delberthot Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 You really need to take the top of the amp off to check it. You don't say what amp you have but generally the UK distributors sell some spares so you can get the correct part. They can vary in size and shape and some are mounted onto the PCB Quote
d-basser Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 (edited) also you could check that the inside isn't just dirty, I did a setup for someone who's guitar was crackley and cutting out and it turned out the inside of the jack socket had corroded from sweaty fingers on the jack. I took a little brasso on a cotton bud to it and it was good as new. Could also be a perfectly good socket with a loose connection somewhere. Edited August 25, 2013 by d-basser Quote
stu_g Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 there are quite a few different types but i managed to get some to fit my old dynacord on ebay so sourcing the part shouldnt be too hard Quote
icastle Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 If it's a PCB mounted one then it might just need to be resoldered - you can get a lot of stress on a solder joint fitted to a PCB from a jack plug. Quote
Thunderbird Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 (edited) OK thanks guys will check those things out cheers And sorry I forgot to mention it is a crate BT100 combo Also while I have the amp apart the built in tuner has never worked it does not really bother me but my tinkering curiosity has got the better on me and I would like to have a go at getting it going while the amps taken apart anyway, so any advice on where I should be looking with the tuner fault? cheers in advance Edited August 26, 2013 by Thunderbird Quote
icastle Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Ah The tuner will get it's signal from... the input jack. Fix the input problem and there's a good chance you'll fix the tuner problem at the same time. Quote
