:) Hello

I lied.
This is, in fact, my second post. I just posted a message in the "wanted" section:
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/215574-ibanez-sr506-w-maple-fretboard/

A little bass bio:
I started playing when I was about 15. I'm 29 now.
However, I'm not as good as someone who's been playing for nearly fifteen years should be. I pay my rent as an artist which takes up pretty much all my time, so if you heard me play you'd probably think I've been playing for... maybe three years :D

I used to play in some boring rock bands but then I discovered Kraftwerk, múm and WARP records in quick succession and the plod rock thing went out the window. So, now I play a Vintage V940 fretless and a Peavey Grind 6 through some pedals into Ableton.

That's about it. I hope you consider me introduced :)
Nice to say hello after reading so many of your posts.

I used to own one like it when I was really young but I lost it somehow.
Gutted.
So I just had to pull this image off google for my avatar. These days, I console myself with this wonderful book:

I'm still looking for the Horikawa 'Fighting Robot' I had when I was a kid. No luck yet. At least not at a price I can afford!

Great book - have you also seen the excellent Vintage Toys - Robots And Space Toys ?

Nope, haven't seen that book, but I do love seeing these old designs.
I searched youtube for the Rotate-o-matic and holy moly that's irritating http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8fch4yyUrE :D

I can't believe the 'Fighting Robot' is going for 900 dollars
Expensive hobby, that..

Yes it is expensive. I had quite a large collection of 50s, 60s and 70s Japanese tin robots at one time. I gradually sold them as I needed to buy more practical things. I've still got a 'Smoking Space Man' which is very cool, and a 'Thunder Robot', which is just hilarious.

I'd still dearly love to get my hands on the 'Fighting Robot', if only for sentimental reasons - but I really can't justify the cost! :)

@Discreet These are so cool! 'Smoking Spaceman' is the quintessential robot, I think. It's always disappointed me that there isn't a B-movie with a city being destroyed by a giant one of those. That would make me happy.

Thanks BassTractor and SimonEdward!

I'm proud that my first thread here was instantly derailed and no mention of bass playing has actually occurred.
