I think you are right. The Matsumoku factory seemed to put out a lot of similar basses based on the same layout and bodies, under different brand names during the early 80's.
On that particular bass, I like the fact that the P pickup is nearer the bridge than a Fender P. Not so sure on the "nipple" at the rear strap button end of the body !

I have one of these, they were made by Kasuga, Japan, in the 80's. This one is a re-badged Kasuga Scorpion, Through neck construction, pretty, but lightish build. Toppy sounding, probably better with the optional Dimarzio,
