Mzungu71 Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Hi Basschatters Went round to a mates house this week to watch the St Pauli game on t'internet and we chatted about all things musical as you do. Turns out he bought a 70's P bass in about '85 for 50 quid and still has the thing. It's got a few issues that need sorting out most urgently is the missing neck plate which is not doing the rear of the body of the bass any favours at all So what I would like is do any of you P Bass owners happen to have a photo of an original 70's neck plate so I can source him a replacement and help him get this little bit of nostalgia back into the state it deserves? Cheers Gary Quote
Musky Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Depends on the year - prior to '76 the serial number was on the plate, and after it wasn't. Both had the Fender 'F' there though. Has you mate's one got a serial on the headstock? Quote
stinson Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 As above, if it's post 76 you can buy repro 'F' plates no problem. Quote
Mzungu71 Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 (edited) It is a 1977 or 1978 model. So presumably this is just the big "F" Edited August 29, 2013 by Mzungu71 Quote
Mzungu71 Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 Thanks everyone for your kind assistance Quote
Fat Rich Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 If it's late 70s would it have the plastic shim behind the plate? I know Fender was very inconsistent fitting them in the early and mid 70s. If the paint is damaged where the old screws were biting in the plastic shim might help to hide that. Quote
