Bilbo Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Here'smy old friend... you can look but don't touch (unless you want to...) Quote
7string Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Blimey !! I'm sure there's a lot of players who'd love to get they're hands on a Wal like that Quote
silverfoxnik Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 Lovely example of the classic Wal Custom! I had 2 Wal Customs (fretted) in the 80's; my first bought direct from Wal in 1983 was stolen, and the second, which I bought to replace it with using the insurance money, just wasn't as good. So I traded it in for a Wal Pro 2e at the old Bass Centre in Wapping and still use the Pro models to this day.. I recently played WalMan's Custom and rediscovered just how good they are.. Quote
Higgie Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 (edited) This is probably the best fretless Wal I've seen. Congratulations on having such a beautiful bass in your collection. My dad sold his Wal Mk II that he had made Edited June 16, 2008 by Higgie Quote
Dr.Dave Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Fussy bar steward that I am , I'm still not sure about the squarish Wal headstocks but that's pretty small potatos when you see a bass like this. F*****g outstanding , my friend. The wood , the classic shape , the mojo from your own fair hands ..... it looks so tactile. Just stunning. I bet you can't walk past it in the house without picking it up can you? I couldn't. Quote
Bilbo Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 Its the only bass I have practised on for 22 years. Quote
cetera Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Lovely bass! I have a stained maple faced Wal Custom fretless 4 too..... they're gorgeous basses! Quote
Jase Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 If Fender Jazz basses became illegal or extinct, think I'd go for a Wal. That's a gorgeous bass bilbo, looks really comfortable and loved....that board is in good nick Is that Rotosound or something similar your using? Quote
Bilbo Posted June 23, 2008 Author Posted June 23, 2008 Rotosound Solo Bass (groundwounds - 22 years and still minimal fretwear) Quote
dmz Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Lovely looking bit of kit - if it plays as good as it looks, you are indeed one lucky guy. I have always lusted after one being a Percy Jones fan - maybe one day......... Funny what Dr Dave was saying about headstocks - I never got on with the look of the five string/six string headstocks - I much prefer the look the "custom" four string headstock. Would be nice to see a five string with a four string custom shaped headstock. Quote
spiritchaser Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 These WALs are plain killer basses. My MK I is a lined fretless and there is a custom made with buckeyed burl tops I made myself with the help of my wife and a German master bass luthier. Enjoy them! Oliver Here are mine: Quote
Bilbo Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 I have had this 29 years now. It's 30 next March. Quote
CamdenRob Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 What a lovely example My new one arrives next month, hopefully I can hang on to it for 30 years as well. Quote
mikeswals Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) Wow, old thread! Still good. But for Dr Dave, Wal does also make one with a little aerodynamic headtock. Edited June 12, 2015 by mikeswals Quote
Romeo2 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Hey, Is this the one that Jeff Ament is playing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeDjwoJZtkE ? Quote
