My September offering. I took a moment's look at the image and solo cello came into my head. I put this together quite quickly using Arabic sounding scales but it really does it for me in terms of it relating to the image. More so than almost anything else I have done before. Simple but effective.

Yeah, thanks, pal..! ...and there was I, thinking "Ah..! Arabic scale..! Solo strings..!". I've not listened yet,and don't dare to. What's the expression; something about 'Great minds'..?
Oh,well, I suppose I still have time to come up with a 'Plan B'.

...

No,sod it..! I shan't listen (...or, at least, not yet...)..! Plan A, and we'll see whether telepathy really does exist..! I hadn't fixed myself on the 'cello, either, so I have some leeway still..! Now, where's that headset..?

Bloomin' 'eck, you don't hang about do you!?

Just had a listen to this on my phone. The cello sounds very realistic (especially the vibrato) and the composition fits the image nicely. Suitably sparse and solemn.

I know nothing of Arabic scales, but this certainly has a Middle-Eastern feel to it.

Well done Bilbo. First off the bat in the new season! :)

Damn that's quick off the mark.... I'll have a listen over the weekend.

I was thinking of going Phrygian with mine although I've got a bit of a techno idea coming through, we shall see. I need to sort out a house move before thrashing something out for this.

I wrote it over a couple of days, whilst walking the dogs. Put it into Sibelius, created a midi file, populated it with Misoslav Philharmonik's solo cello and posted it. Took about 35 minutes.

I am so tempted to change this into a metal version  I think it could work well

This months entry.
The picture is not the best advert for IKEA in Syria though, is it?

You could drop that piece right into any Hollywood blockbuster, it's a masterpiece. Well done.

Quick tip: try searching on SoundCloud (or a similar site) for singers in whatever genre you're interested in:

You'll have to wade through some dross, but there are plenty of diamonds to be found if you're patient - it's worked for me! :)

Excellent, Bilbo, really class playing and feeling. Echoes of the fall of the Berlin wall there somewhere, and very much apt for the photo. A solemn moment; food for thought. A refreshing change, too; I don't think you'll be accused of over-production, somehow..! :D
I'm glad I deferred listening before finishing my own, so as not to confuse my own train of thought (such that it was...). In fact, my train seems to have derailed a little; what was to be a sober rendering turned out to have a life of its own, and much longer than I had planned. No matter; I think that, having heard both now, I can safely state that no telepathic qualities were passed on to me. Not quite chalk and cheese (more 'rhubarb and custard..?).
Now on to listen to the others... B)

Good evening, Lowdown...

Splendid, stirring stuff..! I like the drone, menacing, yet supportive. Free-form chords, entwined melodies, a paradoxical feeling of pressure, yet at the same time uplifting, towards release, and relief.
Did I like it..? I should coco..!

Nice one.

"There's a genuine ancient Arab folk melody buried in there somewhere, so it's not 100% original"

Fortunately both Trad and Anon are famously lax in pursuing their royalties ;-)

Thank you. B)

As a non-believer in the legitimacy of this form of remuneration, I sympathise little with the plight of the unknown musician, now dead for some 3500 years. Any news of his/her descendants..?

Credit is due, nevertheless, to Marcelle Duchesne-Guillemin for transcription of these relics. :hi:

I guess we were chomping at the bit for this one , mine is up now .
forgive me for not listening to the others yet, I do like to wait for the voting and listen to them all in the same frame of mind , I can then somehow appear to come to a more reasoned approach to a vote . I know it sounds daft , but I enjoy doing it that way and I don't get disheartened by judging my own against the others already in .

anyway enough of that ,

I hope it provides a bit of ....er ... something
