Moffat Bass Bash 7

I'm typing this from the Balmoral Hotel. For anyone coming up from a southerly direction along the M6/M74, I should warn you that there are quite a lot of roadworks. For some reason, someone was letting off fireworks a bit earlier, and at 9:20 a pair of local lovers could be heard under our window screaming romantically at each other such endearments as "what the f*** are you going on about" and "why don't you just f*** off". Had haggis, neeps and tatties a little earlier and it was jolly nice. That's a lovely giant wicker man they've got in the back garden of the hotel.

People are constantly setting of fireworks in Edinburgh. If it's not for the festival it's for Hogmanay.

A bit early for the festival, a bit late for Hogmonay, and 60 miles from Edinburgh. It was probably just to welcome us to the town, as was the howling of the pack of wolves somewhere down the high street at 8:00 this morning.

Now the dust has settled it's time to say what an excellent weekend that was, m' young friends! Good food, good beer, excellent company, good tunes and an outstanding collection of gearage! Thanks must go to those behind the faultless organisation, as well as Boon Blandford and Sandy Sweetman for their sterling efforts backing up the bass-e-okey. I'm looking forward to seeing the numerous pics that were taken.

Keep the faith!

I had an absolutely amazing weekend for many reasons, the Bass Bash being central to them all.

Anita was really keen to come along and she had heard all about it well before the event. So for me it was a welcome weekend away in a town I've grown ever so fond of with a lady likewise.

Well, she had a great time, I had a great time and we had a great time too :)

I'd like to thank Alan, Lihnnie (I always get the spelling wrong I suspect) Dave, Shaun, Sandy and all old friends and new for a great time. I even emerged on Sunday without a hangover which with my lack of tolerance for alcohol was an absolute winner.

Sadly with my band life being a pathetic series of failures the Basseokey seems to be my annual gig! So thanks for the opportunity to do two songs. Was it just me or did the ACG's all sound great with the band?

I didn't take so many photo's this year but I'll put a couple up. Bass wise, highlights for me were probably my own ACG Finn which might seem a little unusual but believe me that IS a success :) It was the first time it's breathed in anger.

I suspect that Anita and I will be back to Moffat this year on the bike as it's a great area for motorcycling. We did keep off the motorway in Scotland as it was and explored some nice detours.

Here we go:

Paul S playing my Finn whilst praying to Dave's Foundation 212 cab.

More worship, this time the tuning genuflection in front of a wall of ACGs.

Dave P in a reflective mood, with the overhead lights causing it.

Anita laughing because she spied a card transaction machine and discovered that it wasn't me that bought this stunning Gordon Smith bass.

This is Matt's (Neepheid's) Gibson corner after I started hallucinating.

Paul (Mr Thumb) in the same location with the awesome EB2014 thinking 'I see the light!'

Gary G with the very beautiful and unusually finished ACG.

Paul S's amazing looking ACG Salace with added Krell-like modification. My favourite looking bass.

Body count, surely - there were quite a few of us with headlesses. A neck count wouldn't have worked either, with Dave P's Status Plus.

Good to meet a few more people and re-meet others. Special thanks to Alan for organising and for suggesting where I might be able to improve my fretless technique and Jennifer for giving me a few minutes tuition on the subject, so I now have something to work on and a clear idea of what to do. Also thanks to Sean and Sandy for the basseokey, and my apologies to them for the hash I made of "Stuck in the middle". Oh, and Mrs Zero has promised me an ACG bass for my 60th birthday, so I'd better be sure to live that long.

Rather tired today so not a lot getting done.

Thanks to my partner in crime Dave for helping out throughout and organising the stage. Thanks to Shaun as always even though he was under the weather from the party on the Friday night. Sandy for stepping up at short notice.
Good to catch up with all the regulars, you know who you are.

Thanks to Manchester Bass Lounge, Overwater, Alpher and Haydn from Williams Guitars all for bring gear along, very much appreciated.

All in all an excellent weekend.

I think we are now where we want to be with regard to numbers. The hotels where pretty much full, the curry house was full and the venue equally so. Since neither myself or Dave wish to grow the event any further which would require moving to a bigger venue outside Moffat this will be what we regard as the optimum setup and what we will be trying to maintain from here on in.

There will be a Facebook page set up for pics to be shared, link will be posted once it is up and running.
