Which p-bass would be the Jedi Grand Master?

To be honest once you've played the Lull and felt how light and perfectly balanced it is you will forget all about that headstock shape (I don't mind it myself). Basically you're correct, the lesser bass has sentimental value and I have always been at my most inspired when playing it.
I was SO close to selling the Fender in favour of the Lull though, which considering how highly rated the Fender is, should tell you a lot about how good that Lull is.

It's the 'most inspired when playing it part' that contains all the magic isn't it, that's the bit where you try everything in the shop and there's just one that stands out, even though it's not the most expensive and it might not even be a colour you'd gone looking for, it's just got that extra bit of something that you can't design into an instrument, if it has soul already you're more likely to play from yours?

Well, I can confirm that I never wanted a reliced bass, and certainly not one that was practically pink - but after a couple of notes unplugged I was sold. Maybe the factors that make a bass "special" vary for each person though, maybe my Pino wouldn't do it for you.
I suppose experience can't be bought and the only way to know what you like is to try lots of things until something stands out above the rest. Thats where I consider myself to have been very lucky in that I had [i]that[/i] bass, stupidly sold it, and was actually able to get it back again.

Maybe my Jedi bass is not the [s]droid[/s] bass you are looking for?

Jedi train from learners (padawan) and upon completion of training become knights (I think) eventually becoming a jedi master and maybe gaining a seat on the jedi council, the chief of that council is the jedi grand master...I think that's how it goes...?

so essentially, the op is looking for the chief among p-basses, accepting that all p-basses are jedi among mortal basses with some ranking as jedi master but only one/few ever achieving grand master status

About 5 years back I had mid '90's blond/white/maple Precision called Kylie and a '79 Black/Black rosewood Precision called, well you can guess....

Kylie ended up with Legion. Not sure how that ended. Danni? Well there's a story

or I have been using the wrong basses...
Mind you the only boutique I've had was a custom Warwick Streamer from 89.. that I used for near on 20 years.. Then went full circle back to passive with Fender and couldn't be happier.
Best bass I have owned full stop is a 1970 Fender P..
Of course it's all personal and down to feel and what you expect from your instrument.. As has been said before a lot of the people that get to listen to our music couldn't tell the difference in sound between a £200 bass and a £2000 one.

Expensive (predictably) , and I think the string mute looks ugly , but I prefer the colours on offer to the Pino's faded Fiesta Red/tort combination . .

The last Fender I had, was a Fender American Standard Precision. It was a good bass, but I like the Rickenbacker 4003 better.

There is no better P bass than a pre CBS P bass. The early 62 reissues made in the 80's come close. Other than that, they're all a pale copy.

This is pretty sweeping statement, and one with which I disagree . All Precision -style basses are inferior to a pre-CBS Fender or one of the 82/83 reissues? Are you sure about that? How do you know that?

I have played a lot of pre-CBS Fenders, and once you strip away the mystique, most of them were fairly entertaining( providing they weren't knackered in one way or another) but not transcendentally great or even that different to a lot of new P Basses in terms of the final sonic results. There have been one or two notable exceptions that sounded great and were memorably enjoyable basses to play, but, by the same token, I have played plenty of great brand new Fender Precisions that would do exactly the same job for you .

Apart from the 'passive' requirement I would have said it was the perfect 'Yoda-P'. Until the next one comes along of course, when it will be demoted to Mace Windu status.

It was interesting at the bass bash that I don't think anyone had a play on mine, but about 20 had a crack on Mr Swift's. Maybe everyone prefers a 5 these days. Can't be anything to do with him, surely.
