Opinions on a Trace Elliott 1528

I'm on the market for a new cab yet again.

I've been speaking with Alex at Barefaced and have recommendations from him but I have other cabs in mind and I'm trying to narrow it down a bit.

I'm ideally looking to only have one cab and I like the idea of this cab but am worried that because they say it has been tuned to 32Hz that they've sacrificed the top end to do this and I'm going end up having to buy a 2x10 or something to go on top.

I like the idea of the tilt back castors and that that it comes with a cover so that'll be £50+ I don't need to spend on a cover and £20 on wheels.

When I sell my Ampeg I plan on buying a Hartke LH1000 (well that's today's plan, it could very easily change tomorrow  )

I haven't heard many people talk about the newer Trace stuff so am typing this hoping that there may be some on the forum who have them and have just been keeping quiet.

I play in a rock band that does weddings as well and I don't go through the PA so I need something loud enough for bigger venues as well. The Ampeg & Laney combination that I use just now does that but its not exactly the sound I'm after.

Its this model here:

Do Trace Elliot amps still sound trebly and soulless? They were all the rage amongst the finger style and slapping brigade in the early 1990's, but sounded awful if you wanted to get some bottom end and growl. Might explain why rehearsal studios were full of them in the late 1990's, presumably sold off cheap once everyone got bored of trying to be Flea from RHCP.

I don't have experience with this cab, but I have owned a few Trace cabs in my past..:

1153 (compact 1x15, cracking)
2103H (2x10+horn, meh)
1518 (big 1x15, the new one and the best Trace cab I have owned)

The 1153 lacked a real big bottom end, the new 1518 more than made up for that. The top end on th 1518 was there but not harsh like I felt it was on the 1153, a much smoother treble roll off. No loss of clarity but then I don't like tweeters, hence why I think the 2103H was totally crappy (the tweeter in it was pony, and the Celestion woofers were a bit poop too really).

I'd be interested ot hear the new 1528 cab, I reckon you'll be pleasantly surprised how it sounds but at the same time I would trust the opinions of Alex over the technical blurb on the Trace site!! Knowing some of the amps you've had in the past I suspect you may miss a tweeter.

Thanks Merton

One of the best sounds I had was with the 15" V-type combo and a Series V 1518 but it was a bit odd looking paired together due to the different sizes.

I didn't speak to Alex about the 1528, just his own cabs - I've been recommended something like the Super 12 as it would handle gigs like the one I had in a big marquee at the weekend better but those are few and far between so he also recommended a Compact and a big amp to drive it if as I mainly play pubs and weddings.

Sorry, what's meant was Alex would be a lot more honest about his cabs than anyone else! Didn't't really do a good job of explaining that one, sorry...

I have an S12 now, it is astonishing. I currently run it with a GK MB Fusion and I love it to bits. I have the balls that the Trace V-Type combo had but with far less weight, a better bottom end and more volume :)
