Because I'm sure you're all desperate to hear how my story ended: the shop traded in my CTM15 for a LB30. Tried it out at last night's rehearsal and it holds its own a lot better. Nice and simple to use, and the tone is wonderful right from the off!

The LB30 have a better clean headroom because of the power. I've use a LB30 on small gig and it holds up really nicely. I use a 2x12 cab so that helps abit. If you use a 8x10 it surely will be alot louder ....

I think that was why I plumped for the CTM15 to begin with - the overdriven sound was absolutely stunning. Sadly it didn't really have enough bottom end once we put a guitarist and drummer over the top! And I probably can't get away with playing a full-on Lemmy-esque OD tone for our whole set.

(I've only got a 1x15 for the time being, but this might give me an incentive to invest in another cab!)

I've been musing on a b-15 type sound for a while but wondered about the volume so maybe the 30w one of these would be a start? Need a shop that's got them in so I can try them near Sheffield...

But why the little meter thing, is it functional?

It shows the output. And I quote from the Ashdown site:

"The CTM-15's analog VU meter isn't a vintage-style triviality, it gives you an accurate display of your power amp's output. Tube amps always have their own sweet spot where they sound their best, and the CTM-15's VU meter helps you find it every time."

Hi.
Forgive my ignorance but are you able to run this as 'preamp' into a MAG300 15? Or bypass the head part of the Mag combo?
Sorry if this is complete madness.

No, it has no direct out. The CTM30 / Little Bastard does, but it taps off the main output transformer and still needs to be connected to a speaker load to prevent damage.

Yes the LB30 has a DI on the back. It is taken from its own tap off the output transformer, so you get the full glory of the those output tubes. I've used it a couple of times and it works just fine if you need to add a little of your sound into the PA.

I'm assuming the CTM30 is the same - Captain Ashdown will be able to confirm that.

Cheers

Is it possible to get a DI out fitted aftermarket?
