And as a follow up, yuck!

That's actually a double whammy, as I don't like white basses, but more so when it's white/tort/maple.

Haha! thats my bass and I love all the colour combinations! Horses for Courses

As long as its the dark brown tort I think it works. Red tort looks cheap in my opinion.

From Sandberg Configurator:

I rest my case...
The last one there is the only one that catches my eye, the rest don't do anything for me. That, and WoT's lovely former Fender are the only examples that I could get on board with, everyone else, must try harder! ;)

Also, I realise that some of you might have basses in the colour combos I've previously derided, and it may even be your dream bass, so if I've offended anyone, I apologise! These are entirely my views, and as it's been pointed out, it's horses for courses. As long as you like it, it doesn't matter what I think!

Just to clear this out, i'm not a fan of tortoise, i really prefer BWB pickguards on burst finishes but i do have one bass (my first) with a tort pickguard. I'ts metalic red (with flakes) and the neck has a roasted finish. I find it very pretty and if you see the fifth pic i think you'll agree with me (just overlook the poor fretboard colour on sandbergs configurator).

I do love a maple fretboad though ;)

I can't deny that rosewood is classic, but maple is lovely with the TV logo.

Damn, I want my old bass back SO MUCH....

Beautiful bass. .

What I really can't stand is white guards and rosewood boards.
So you wouldn't like this 1973 P Bass..? :)

Oh that's NIIIIICE.

Looking at the earlier pics, I'm quite surprised that the only two I am keen on are the Black P bass w/maple neck and the sunburst Pbass that is missed mourned by its previous owner. They look great.

If I had a black P with a maple neck, I'd be happy with a dark tort plate, but would be tempted to go mirror or black at some point.

This thread just confirmed to me that I just don't like tortoise shell pick guards...
So its not just me then?

The trouble with tort and maple folks is that the shape of the bass is all wrong! Here, I've fixed it for you:

Where-as that is the one colour combo that's rather acceptable, it would still look better with a tort guard or a maple board :P.

I'm afraid not - did you know it's actually illegal to use a tort guard with anything but aged olympic white or sunburst?
It can result in a fine, community service, a month in prison and a sound lashing across the buttocks with a Minotaur strap.
