Most popular Amp ?

Mesa Carbine M6, for that monster throaty sound. Responsive and just rock'n'roll.

I play it with a TKS 212 and a Promethean 410, but that is getting replaced by 2x TKS 2126s in the next coupe of weeks. The TKS speakers are some of the lightest and effective speakers I have heard. And I am getting them custom finished as well.

Just bought a TC BG250 combo. Light, small and loud enough for the pub gigs I do. I don`t know if I am totally sold on the sound yet after playing with a 2x10 set up for the last couple of years but hey ho.

Surprising how few people are using Ampeg which I expected to see more off.

Lightweights seem to be most popular too.

i would be interested to see some statistical analysis of gear weight against player age

for as long as my back will stand it i will lug the hartke kit around

if only hartke made a more powerful small 12/15 combo and small extension cab...........

Was tempted by the tc electronic head that you can throw in your gigbag ....for £215 it's a steal , just BCers tales of low volume put me off.

The big valve classics are just too expensive to buy and maintain, I feel.

Even the Ampeg SVT series which have tube pre-amps and SS or Class D power sections don't seem that common either.

Like the comment on age related to amp / cab weight. Makes sense.

Interesting thought regarding the weight of gear and age. According to Alexa the typical age of a Basschat user is 45-55 (IIRC), which might explain the predominance of lightweight gear here. Although it seems as if Talkbass also has a large number of people using lightweight heads, and the membership has a lower average age over there.

I suppose there's also the appeal of being able to lug it about on public transport for those too young to afford insurance premiums. If you like how it sounds, what's not to like about halving the weight of your kit?

Hartke 3500 and a old,very old Trace cab,15 and a 10, (thinking shes about 1985ish) lives in the van,gosh its a weight,also as a spare a tc500 and a pair of 2x12,which only use for depping,home use.But at the end of the year,thinking of going light weight

I still have a Trace Elliott valve preamp combo ,the one with the silver front which has an INCREDIBLE sound real pro. But the weight of it is unbelievable.

Reliable, relatively lightweight & both give me the depth of bass sound I like.

I doubt my Red Iron amp is in the most popular list, in fact, afaik, there are only two Red Iron bass amps in existence, the rest being guitar amps.

I also have a much more popular amp for the times I'm willing to sacrifice tone for convenience, the Streamliner 900 (still sounds great though)

I'm currently playing through TC BH500 head, TC BC212 & TC 210 cabs - cabs aren't too heavy, it's loud and cuts through two very loud detuned guitars - job done!

EBS HD350 with the Pro Neo 2x12 cab for making lots of noise...Phil Jones Briefcase for when less noise is required.. GK Backline112 combo cos I can't bring myself to sell it...

All fantastic bits of kit in their own way..

Still plenty of people using Ampeg out in the real world!

I use either a Mesa Boogie Mpulse or a LM3 thru a Berg 410.

Streamliner 900 and Schroeder 1515L. Match made in heaven (the low-mid bump of the cab tames the big bloom of the amp), and about 45lbs the pair.

im using a streamliner and 2xfocus 2x10 does the job and I can carry everything in one trip
