GAS is easier to recognise as GAS if it's only me that wants the things I'm GASsing for. If someone else has the same GAS then my GAS starts to seem justified! I've got a thing for brittish built basses at the moment and as you say, they are very reasonably priced for vintage instruments that can only get rarer and increase in value...
