Roland Rock
My '78 P has a bit of heft at 11.5 lbs, but I'm sure there are some more ridiculously heavy beasts out there - who has the heavyweight champion? And for balance, who has the lightest?
Kiwi
The Alembic Elan 6 that Ped and I used to own was a monster. We never weighed it but my Stingray is 12lbs and the Alembic was far heavier. To the point where it was painful to wear for long periods. The lightest bass I've ever played was Herbie Flowers's 59 Jazz. The body felt like it was made from balsa wood. The next generation jazz basses that Chris Celinder was working on a few years back were super light as well. Unfortunately never managed to weigh either. charic
Doesn't someone here have a metal bass? My Yamaha RBX6JM is pretty hefty but I've not weighed it lol
Muzz
My 78 Jazz was 11lbs 12oz (it's long gone), and my Dingwall ABZ4 is 7lbs 6oz (that's staying).
Roland Rock
The funny thing is that I had the 11.5 lb bass as my sole instrument for eleven years, and played many long gigs and practices without issue. I buy a 8.5 lb five string last year, and suddenly I have a frame of reference - now the P feels really heavy!

Spike Vincent
1978 Fender Precision is 13.5 lbs.Mind you, there's a fair amount of dirt and decades of nicotine staining which might make it heavier.

[/quote] Hell's teeth, that's heavy. I've never weighed my Dano, but it must be under 7lbs. Violin basses weigh in at 5lbs something IIRC. leftybassman392
I don't have any scales handy but I'd like to offer up my '84 Wal Custom with Wange facings and an Ebony fretboard...... I currently have 5 basses, and it's the heaviest by miles. Miles and miles and miles..... On the other hand the Zon Sonus with the compo neck is pretty lightweight. stingrayPete1977
Some of those 70s fenders are crazy, I can't imagine a fifteen pound bass! My black stingray is probably towards twelve.
molan
My Sei Original headless is 6lbs 9ozs. My Ritters are all under 8lbs as well, I think the lightest one is only just over 7lbs

bertbass
The heaviest bass I ever owned was a Shergold 4 / 12 twin neck. I never weighed it but a hour of it over my shoulder and it got painful. It is basically 2 guitars. The lightest is my Danelectro long horn at virtually nothing. Fionn
I have a light bass and a heavy bass ... at least I thought it was heavy. It's nowhere near the extremities mentioned in this thread (16lbs of bass, OOF!!!) 4000
Heaviest I've had were probably an ESP at around 12lb and my Jaydees which I'd guess were similar, although they could all have been a tad heavier. The heaviest I've played may have been an old 'Ray which I put on and had to take straight off as I started to take the strain. God knows how heavy it was; must have been twice what my 8.5lb Rics are. Or possibly a 6 string Alembic Series which I couldn't actually wear (this was after my back packed up). Now over 9lbs is pushing it for me. Lightest I've had was probably either my Sei 'Melt' 4 or my Westone Quantum; it's a long time since I had the Quantum so difficult to say.
