WTB: EUB/travel bass, budget up to £3k NO LONGER LOOKING
£3000

I've been rethinking what I'm doing with DB/EUB and whilst I have an incoming budget EUB, I suspect that current location and projects mean that I will need a high quality yet easy/safe to transport instrument. I'd prefer something that has an acoustic sound (i.e., SLB-100 is out). I'm gutted that I didn't get in touch with Clarky in time to bag hi Kolstein, so open to offers of instruments that meet the above criteria.

Chris,
There's a small 3/4 stentor for sale in north Wales http://basschat.co.uk/topic/216874-stentor-34-double-bass-for-sale/
I've just got one to experiment with. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/216686-stentor-1950-student-model/
Well worth looking into.
I've had several eub's, including 2 Kolstein's & an Eminence.
The Kolstein & eminence both have acoustic sound properties but both have skinny necks which don't suit me.
The Stentor has a chunky neck, big sound and is an easy carry.
Good luck in your search

With that kind of budget, you could get a Chadwick folding bass.

Certainly the type of thing I'm looking for Tom, I suspect buying new would be about £1k over my budget so fingers crossed for a used model....

I'm pretty sure you must be aware of Alans work at Bassix, he is now developing a foldable double bass that doesn't require removal of the strings for transit. I have one of his voila models, which has a fairly decent acoustic volume, but even folded, its quite a large case!

Thanks Andy/Keith, neither float my boat to be honest, I'd prefer a wood instrument and one that has decent acoustic output. I'm starting to think my solution is in fact at http://basschat.co.uk/topic/200925-david-gage-double-bass-flight-case-for-sale-l1000-ono/page__fromsearch__1

OK, scrap this! I've had some very useful conversations with experienced BCers today and I'm pretty sure that the upshot of all of these is that if I want to gig DB, and want either my family or the band in the car, i simply need a bigger car, which is probably, all things taken into account, the path of least resistance. I have a stopgap EUB coming in this week courtesy of Clarky and Happy Jack so will see how things go for the time being
Thanks for your help folks
Chris
