Strings for Shortbass One

I've recently aquired one of these. Really cool device.
The strings (I think the original red Aquila ones) are strangely lumpy and rubbery.
Any ideas for alternative strings I could try ?
Something that feels a bit more like a roundwound would be good, though probably not attainable :rolleyes:
If anyone has any thoughts. I'd be grateful for the advice.
