ras52 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) GONE: DELL DIMENSION E521 Vintage circa 2006/7 computer base unit with mains cable, keyboard, 2.1 speakers, system software and documents but No monitor and NO HARD DRIVE – The drive was "put down" for privacy reasons after failing to come to life. Resuscitation attempts included swapping controller slots with the DVD drive, which suggests that the controller is fine and that a new HDD will return this machine to its former (now ageing) glory. The case is a toolless-access design so it's just a question of slotting it in and plugging it in. The sub-woofer has lost its volume knob, but the satellite/sub balance can still be set by twisting the shaft (ooerr). Software includes Windows Vista SP1, Works 8.5 and Dell Drivers. I'm not sure of the spec, but it's an AMD processor with either 2Gb or 4Gb of RAM and dedicated graphics memory Collection from Bromley only, or possibly delivery to somewhere very local. Thank you! geoffbyrne Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 This was a decent band-for-the-buck machine in its day - would make a decent backup machine or home server with a big-ish drive in it - stick in some more RAM & run Win8.1 64 bit, or a decent Linux. Have a bump on me. G.
stu_g Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 if i was a bit closer i would've had it as my old HP is getting a bit asthmatic in its old age
Ancient Mariner Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Should be great with linuxliteOS on it.
rainbowreality Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Funny to think 2006 is now vintage in computer terms, I remember using a commodore pet at school!
chriscassar Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Hi there, Is this still available? Also, what type of hard drive did it have?
ras52 Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013
Hi there, Is this still available? Also, what type of hard drive did it have?
Yep, still cluttering up the place The drive was a standard internal 3.5" job (SATA?) In the third photo you can see the empty bays and the dangling power and data connectors - I can get closeups of the connectors over the weekend if you'd like.
