CHRISDABASS
It sounds like a four string will work for most people. I have a few spec ideas already! really excited about this one! Once the bass has been around everyone on the list it will probably be offered for sale (with ex demo pricing) to all basschat members
Silvia Bluejay
Chris, could you please create a new thread, when you have finalised the specs, so that I can pin it as our build-diary-cum-bass-journey? This is awesome

jimbobothy
Hey I'd like to try it as well if possible please, by the way it's an ace idea and all in a good community spirit, nice one Chris Edited October 9, 2013 by jimbobothy
Pete1967
Oooh.... I'm in too. Any number of strings any number of frets (other than those of Chapman Stick proportions) is OK by me. I have a pile of recording to do so it would be nice to try something a little different.
Clarky72
Sounds like fun, count me in. I'd prefer a 4 but would happily play a 5. Please don't make it a 6!
GregBass
I'd love to give it a whirl!!
hollywoodrox
I think This sounds exciting, however many strings 4 or 5, would be interesting to try a 5. hpw much do you assume shipping would be to each on the chain?
Rubbersoul
Fantastic idea - I'm in. 4 strings all the way!
I guess if there is enough of us and we are well spread out over the country it could be done by meeting up and handing it over to the next person, there may be a few breaks in the chain due to large distances or time constraints that could be filled by couriers. geoffbassist
Great idea! I've played a few Alpher basses and they were all superb so whatever the test bass is it will be top quality.
dougal
I'd like to try it, in either 4 or 5 string guise. Had a bash on one at the errr... bash. It were right tasty.

xgsjx
I'd love to give it a try too. 5 string fretless would be my choice as that's what I'm wanting, but I'm a 4 string fretted player just now.
MoJoKe
5 string fretless would be my choice as that's what I'm wanting
There you go, the jury is in, ya see!! if not too fussy, I'm not too partial to extreme looking singlecuts either, but some lovely woods would be nice. My old Mk1 Wal fretless had olive ash facings on a mahogany core with a macassar ebony fingerboard which was as tough as steel and very slippery... That had a beautiful tone though a little on the heavy (weight) side, but thats Wal for you! Perhaps a nice combination to think about? johnny dissident
Fantastic idea, count me in. 4 strings with frets get my vote, but I'd try anything. I would guess that most of us would live close enough to deliver in person.
charic
Definitely fretted for me please
