A friend of mine has one of these. For something so weird looking, it doesn't sound odd at all. My friends example mostly sounds like the set of ancient strings that he's had on it for years.

I can't recall who,
but that's the only time I ever saw one...
I wonder how many are left out there now?

Looks as if it might be uncomfortable to play? Maybe....
Not a particularly attractive looking instrument in my opinion....
