itsmedunc Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) Well, I have a really bad sleeping pattern. Insomnia? Is 5am bedtime normal when I get up at 8am? I'm 47 fekin seven! What time should a bass player go to bed? I'm really tired all the time and I am thinking of taking up the 6 string to get a few more hours sleep. Help... Edited September 19, 2013 by itsmedunc Quote
Dingus Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Can you expand on the relationship between playing the bass and your lack of sleep? Are you up late practising, or are you sleepless with anxiety over which inversion to use over an A minor 7th chord ? We need to know more details before we can help . In the meantime, avoid energy drinks , sugar , large quantities of garlic and chocolate. Quote
flyfisher Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 5am bedtime before getting up at 8pm would suggest you're getting plenty of sleep - or time in bed anyway. Quote
Dingus Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Hang on a minute , 5AM bedtime and 8PM rise time ? I missed that bit ! That reminds me of being unemployed back in the 1980's . It was great ! Get yourself a girlfriend who likes The Smiths , get hammered every night on cheap snakebite and blame everything on Thatcher . You will sleep like a baby . Quote

Lfalex v1.1 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) I'm finding sleeping in 11/13 has caused me to have quite irregular patterns. I prefer even meters, it seems. Edited September 19, 2013 by Lfalex v1.1 Quote
Norm Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 13 hours kip? Thats not insomnia thats night shift work! Quote
Merton Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) 15 hours - you're probably getting too much sleep and that (oddly) makes you feel tired, too. Edited September 19, 2013 by Merton Quote
CamdenRob Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Ummm... isn't 5 till 8 15 hours... Quote
Merton Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 So it is. I just read Norm's post and didn't do the maths... Quote
CamdenRob Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Well 13 hours was too much 15 is definitely too much! that only leaves 9 hours in the day? I'm at my work desk for 10 hours a day... Rob Quote
itsmedunc Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 See, I was that tired that I put pm instead of am. Or was it the 9 pints of lager? Quote

cytania Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 I actually find mentally running through basslines helps bring sleep. Also counting out breaths from one to four can still the mind. Quote
Dandelion Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Listen to radio 4 podcasts via headphones is my trick. It stops me thinking about stuff. I never remember falling asleep or even feeling tired, but just wake up several hours later. And Formula one after a big sunday dinner is guaranteed to send me into a coma. Quote

DarkHeart Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Insomnia isnt worth losing sleep over Quote
Raslee Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 If you have problematic sleeping then look up 'Mindfulness' techniques on the net. I use it a lot with people through my work and it seems to work wonders for the majority Quote

Prime_BASS Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 I find it hard to get sleep once I'm bed. I usually toss and turn and piss about on my phone till early hours, and even though I can get toowork on time by waking at 7:30 I'm usually wide awake at 6. I can't remember when I last had a decent 8 - 9 hours kip. I often stew about my bass playing, gear, work, bills, money and all other things. Quote
