Jam
This is probably as good a place to ask as any; I bought a Hohner bass for £50 about 3 years ago, and the bloke who wanted rid of it said it was from the 80s sometime. It's a "Hohner Arbor MX1". I've searched the net and even emailed Hohner's main offices (In german, I might add) but nothing's turned up. Anyone heard of them/own one? It's not a bad bass, especially not for the price. Feels like it's lead-lined though, very heavy. Nice neck and beautiful finish on the body. Only thing is, it doesn't sound too good for slap, so i've stuck some roundwounds on it, and a sponge up towards the bridge and it sounds pretty awesome. I dunno if this will work, but it's a picture of me playing it: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?act=attach...ost&id=2460

gareth_william_crossland
Hi everyone - I'm new here. I've just realised that I haven't been through anywhere near as many basses as the rest of you. Anyhoo here's the few that I've owned (I still have the receipts for some of these - how anally retentive). Hohner PJ Bass Guitar S/N:8816157 White. Purchased new on the 3rd December 1988 for £139.00. My first bass. Good acoustic tone but bloody awful plugged in. Action you could limbo-dance under. Jaydee Supernatural Mark King Signature S/N:71085 Cherry red. Purchased second hand on the 11th December 1996 for £750.00. A Beautiful instrument, low action, fast neck but a bit too treble-y for my liking. Jaydee Supernatural Series I S/N:80469 Black. Purchased second hand on the 19th November 1997 for £995.00. This is the one bass I wish I'd never sold. I'm still kicking myself over this. Totally stunning, beautiful tone, nice low action, fast neck. The only thing I didn't like about this bass was the colour. Status Series II S/N:198. Cherry red. I can't remember exactly when I bought this but I paid £750 for it second hand. I remember trying it out in the guy's house and slapping the E string once and then saying "Here's the money, I'm taking the bass, I'm off!" It has a few scars (it is about 23 years old after all) but I love it. Fantastic tone, incredibly low action, ultra-fast neck. I still have this bass and would never part with it. Jaydee Supernatural Roadie S/N:01050 Cherry red. Purchased second hand on the 5th August 2007 for £450.00. Totally stunning, beautiful tone, nice low action, fast neck. It's a Jaydee so what do you expect? I've learned my lesson with the Series I and I'm never going to part with this instrument. slapathy
If anyone is still interested............. Jedson P bass copy shortie Fender Musicmaster shortie, traded it for.... 78 Fender Precision Sunburst, why o why did I sell this? Yamaha BBG5A Yamaha TRB5-1 Fretless still got it probably wouldnt part with it, the one that sold me on TRB-1s Yamaha BB1100s Yamaha BB1100s fretless (you can see where this is going............) Yamaha TRB5-II 5 string - BIG mistake, the only TRBs are TRB-Is Yamaha TRB5-I from Italy (Il Basso) Yamaha TRB5-I from Germany (Das Basse, or should it be Die Basse?) Yamaha TRB5-I from France (La Basse) (still got it, its the same colour as the fretless) (Yes I had 3 identical basses at the same time, plus the fretless. Ebay is a killer when you're trying to get over G.A.S.............) Yamaha RBX-760 (donated to All Saints (no not them, our Church)) Yamaha TRB6-I (just sold this, its on its way to London next week. Enjoy, Keith, if you're reading this) Yamaha TRB4-I (still got this, will probably sell it soon. Anyone interested? 07756 174187) Yamaha BEX-4 Semi (pristine condition but unplayable due to mega high action. It needs urgent & serious luthier-type surgery. Why did I buy this? Because it was there I suppose. Again, will definitely sell if anyone interested) I got there in the end, the Holy Grail of TRB-Is........ Yamaha TRB5P An awesome thing, and it speaks Ampeg. Action still higher than its bolt-neck piezo-less cousin (if slightly less buzzy) but being a ham-fisted Mechanical Engineer I'm reluctant to tweak the truss rod any further. Trouble is I now have GOT to have a fretless one. Can you get pills for it, G.A.S. that is, or is buying more basses the only cure? That'll be a yes then............ Dean Edge Q4 - gorgeous bass, excellet VFM, wish I hadn't flogged it 6. Status Groove 5 string - replaced the Jazz as it is a far better bass for me in every way - light, playable, great tone 7. Status Retroactive J - "custom" built for me last year, my main bass and I adore it. Blue ones have gone, black ones will NEVER be sold.
