parkeriana
Just for the exercise: Framus Star (big semi-acoustic, candy-striped veneer, neck like half-dowel, action like the Forth Bridge) Baldwin Bison Rickenbacker 4001 fretless (had sentimental attachment, but poor design & no ring to it) Gibson EB3L (sold it years ago to my bro-in-law, but whenever I pick it up now I'm pleasantly surprised by it) Fender Precision (1957, pre-split p/up; still got: delightful) Graham Wheeler fretless (made by Sussex luthier; smooth & powerful, but the "omega" type shape gave me tendinitis in my left wrist) Fender P/J fretless (well, that's what it started life as; now got a large element of Heath Robinson; still got: suits me fine) Fender Jazz 5 Warwick FNA 5 (recently chopped that in on the Sadowsky; not sure now that I shouldn't have kept it; great design & build quality) Sadowsky MS5 (recent acquisition, still exploring it) Not a lot actually for 40+ years, is it? Tanglewood 500/1 copy '63 Hofner 500/7 'Verithin' (wish i'd kept that 'un!) Unbranded P-Bass copy (passed on to step-daughter) not a huge list due to money/space issues! lol! paul_5
Started with a Hohner short scale 'P' bass thing 5 string headless hohner (Steinberger copy) Hohner 5 string with a head and active EQ (at this point the first P bass copy was defretted) squier 5 string P bass (changed the pickups for some DiMarzio ultra jazz - made a world of difference) Current basses: Hohner BA2 acoustic bass (since defretted) Levinson Blade B15 5 string - a brilliant bass. A 'Frankenstein' bass - the neck from a Yamato P Bass copy, and the body from an unknown Hondo bass (ebay). I defrettd the neck, got new pups, bridge etc... more of a building project than a proper instrument, sounds beautiful but the action needs some attention. pb1642
Loving this thread... here's my list Early days I had a couple of EB copies and a Precision copy Ibanez Blazer Then I got a Washburn Status Series 1000 that I wish I had kept All of the following I still have 1981 Wal Pro 1 fretless (slightly unusual as the pup is in the neck position due to the figuring in the wood) 1988 Wal Mach I in black with chrome hardware 1980 Aria SB1000 Yamaha BB1100s (date to follow) Ibanez MC824 Musician (date to follow) Aria medium scale semi (not sure of model, if I post pics maybe someone can tell me) Jazz Bass built from WD parts with Schecter pups Then I bought a Roland GK2 kit on ebay so I needed a bass to install it in. Found a Peavey 6 string Grind on ebay and got it fitted by my brother who is a luthier. This connects to an Axon AX 50 to control my synths. Amp wise I have used all sorts over the years but I am now hooked on Phil Jones gear. I have a Suitcase and a 4B but am looking to get more. kolossusuk
Hadn't picked up on this thread before but here goes: Zenta sunburst bass from around 1974 - terrible bass with weedy pups and weighed a tone - sold it 4 years later to enable me to buy food Vox bass - white. Short scale and a bit of a dud. It was stolen Fender jazz bass USA fretless - sunburst - loaned long term early 80s due to above having been pinched.. magnificent specimen Fender Frankenstein natural - Precision body, Jazz neck guitar project using Fender parts. Superb bass and actively gigged for 5 years from around '82'. Sold to work colleague in '88, having given up bass and music in general Returned to bands and gigging in 2006 playing rhythm then lead and accumulated 2 Gibson Les Pauls and 2 PRS SEs all of which I have retained. Sold on Squier Strat, Epiphone BB, PRS SE Allender and Gibson DC Fender Jazz mex sunburst - acquired around 2007 for 'fun' and to back up our bassist when he failed to show for rehearsals. Sold on year later Joined new band, having returned to the haven of bass playing. Ibanex SRX 590. Dark grey and mother of pearl, superb guitar Fender Frankenstein - bought back from ex colleague to whom I sold it 10 years previously. Sill hadn't been taken out of the case... still plays beautifully Fender Aerodyne Jazz - MIJ. Now my working bass seeing action throughout London and the South East of England playing pub gigs and also hobbying with a prog band! Finally - a new adventure - a top end bass: Gibson Les Paul 5 string bass sunburst finish 1996 model... A rare work of art, but can I play a 5 string? Time will tell Pip pip Paul

Wil
Owned - 2002 Rockbass Corvette - ok player, very light and comfy. Weak pups though. late 70s Avon Grabber copy - pretty awful in every way. Cost me £20 at a car boot. Sold it for £20 a decade later. 2005 MIM Fender Precision - ok workhorse, nothing special tonally or fit and finish wise. 2005 Warwick Streamer Jazzman Fretless - lovely player, full sound, some build quality issues (tuners not correct fitted, screws kept popping out) Joined Bassworld around 2006 2007 Status S2 Classic 5 string bolt on - sublime instrument, maybe not quite the perfect tone for me though and too much £££ to keep tied up in a bass. late 80s/early 90s Status Series 1 NT 5 string - very nice player. A bit artificial sounding, but wish I'd kept it, it had character. 1986 NJ BC Rich Mockingbird - good rock tone, too many switches for me though. 1999 US Fender Jazz standard - excellent player, very resonant, lovely bass all round. Another one I wish I'd kept. 1989 NJ BC Rich Mockingbird - not really sure why I bought this, the neck was like a banana. It was used once live then sold. Hohner B2A - nice cheap little stick bass, not for me though. Dated looks made it a no go for live use which sealed its fate. Ibanez ATK reissue - excellent build quality, nice chunky neck with excellent playability, but not 100% sold on the tone. Own - 1995 heavily modded Encore P bass copy - my first bass, it's been like trigger's broom. It's good for recording vintage tones, terrible live. SSD Spector NS2000/5 - nice solid workhorse. Plays well. Very good chunky rock tone. Not 100% sure this is a keeper, but too skint to do anything about it. Edited February 1, 2011 by Wil
tografox
Owned: Encore P (absolute dog - fell apart almost before it was out of the box) Westfield P (upgraded the pups - should have kept it - damn fine bass) Yamaha BB404 (quietest - and I don't mean that in a nice way - bass ever) Fender P USA (three of them - will I never learn?) Fender Jazz MIM (should have kept that one as well - upgraded everything) Tanglewood 'Beatle's' bass (too light and tinny) Musicman Stingray 4 (Finally realised I don't like maple fingerboards) Musicman Sterling 4 (Nice, but not a 'Ray, and it took me two to find out) Musicman Bongo HH 4 (Just couldn't find a sound that suited) Ibanez Artcore (Another one I should have kept) + various other mistakes! (flipped Epi EBO, several bitzas, Crafter acoustic - I could go on!!) Oh, and I almost forgot the Ric that was nicked! Own: Warmoth P/J - solid walnut, ebay MIJ neck of unknown origin, Wizard pickups (terrific workhorse) Warmoth MM fretless - walnut body, bookmatched walnut top, birdseye maple and ebony neck, Wizard pickup (total indulgence) Musicman Stingray 4 (the Daddy!!) Musicman Bongo HH 4 (so different to my first Bongo - great tone and very playable - 'Sunday best' bass) All lefties Edited March 21, 2011 by tografox

chaypup
The ones I own currently are in my sig, but here's a list of all of 'em: (In order of owning) Westone Concord (that I covered in pages from Melody Maker and varnished!) Ibanez Studio - heavy as hell but I wish I still had Pearl white Riverhead Unicorn - pre-owned by Dave Pegg! BASS BREAK Crafter stingray abomination - lightest bass ever due to being (probably) from polystyrene. Burns Bison - suited the band I was in Hohner fretless headless. Westone Thunder 1A - beauty! Yamaha BB300 Shine SB35 - wanted to try a 5iver Ibanez Roadster Fretless - best sounding bass I've ever owned Westone Superheadless - superheadless, supercool! That's it - until I see a Thunder III. Or an Ibanez Studio Or an affordable Aria Pro II Or something else interesting! hetzer
Can never remember the names of old flames but remember all my guitars over the years:- 1962 Watkins Rapier, converted to Left Handed. 1963. Burns Sonic Left Handed. £45 guineas new! 1965. Burns Sonic Bass Left Handed. £60 guineas new! 1966. Fender Jazz Bass Left Handed. £95 guineas s/h! 1974. Eko Ranger 12 String Left Handed 2001. Tanglewood Violin Bass Left Handed. 2010 Tokai Rockinbetter Bass Left Handed Wish I had kept both the Burns and the Fender. The Fender particularly was a a pre CBS with the chrome pickup cover and large chrome cover over the bridge. All three worth a fortune now and a lot more valuable than old flames!
