Can anyone identify the tuners? Are they unique to this bass?
Is there anything similar available they could be replaced with?

The tuners are original to the bass - they were generic MIJ tuners of the day fitted to many instruments. Not the best looking but perfectly functional. I needed some replacements recently and they are hard to find even Brandoni have sold their last stocks - I bought mine from a fellow Basschatter :)

Sold for £315. I would be physically sick... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121181004775?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Well I'm very pleased because I was the highest bidder! A match for my Masquerader :)

I would imagine you are pleased - I think they have gone for a good deal more recently.

I absolutely love the look of these but the neck is just too wide. But everytime one pops up I look at the listing longingly.
I very nearly bid but had to resist due to a trip to Haydock today and a Mrs with ADH. :)

:) I like the neck width being a Precision and Grabber fan, I always felt they were very comfy to play. I just love these quirky British basses my first full scale bass was a Marathon and I never quite got over part exchanging it for my Precision.

Well I may have a Hayman 4040 I may be moving on...... :)

Hmm, for me that would be a battle between nostalgia and Mrs Zero's resistance to further increases in the bass collection...

Bloody Basschat!! All that build up of Shergold GAS made me buy one on eBay just now. Scruffy as hell, non-standard pickups, but it should put my Marathon demons to rest. Expect to see it for sale on here in a fortnight ... :)

It had only just been listed, so I guess I was lucky in my timing to have a look. BIN was £200 plus £15 carriage. Can't go wrong for that. Pickups were originally fitted by a reasonable well-known luthier called Jim Cairnes, allegedly. Actually I can link to the original listing:

I'm off on holidays next week so it will be coming when I get back - I'll get a decent look and noodle then.

Shazbat! I've got to get my auto-searches sorted out on eBay! Missed two now in quick succession! :o
Let us know how it is in due course.

The neck *may* be too wide, but then again it is not deep. But they are light. We'll see. If it doesn't suit me I'll give you first dibs!

That's a nice early one - the body will be Hayman stock - they have a large rout under the large scratch plate to accommodate the Hayman pickup assembly and double split pickups. The Marathon version had an extra large rectangular scratch plate with a single Shergold pickup.

Looks like the neck is too if that big hole in the headstock is anything to go by. :)
