AsterL
Is it possible to use either a SPDT or DPDT On Off On mini switch to switch between 2 pickups. with position 1 neck, Center positon both and 3 position bridge? or can you only use a ON ON ON DPDT switch to achieve this? KiOgon
You really need the on-on-on variety. Cheerz, John
AsterL
even if the pickups are wired in series?
bertbass
Danelectro use an on-off-on pickup selector switch on their guitars and basses. Plenty of info here, http://dennysguitars.homestead.com/DanoGuitarSchematics1.html
BigRedX
It will work provided you are happy with both pickups wired in series rather than the usual parallel for the centre position. My Burns Sonic bass is wired up this way and I only ever use it with both pickups on because it sounds so good in this configuration. AsterL
Yep I'd be happy to wire them in series, Any chance any one could do a quick diagram of the switch like this?
KiOgon
Bertbass has already kindly given you the info 3 posts above.

AsterL
Hey guys, still having a little trouble with this, and understanding the danelectro schematics. Could someone please still draw me out how to use the miniswitch? Im quite confused now!!!
Woodinblack
It is there on that diagram: http://dennysguitars.homestead.com/DanoGuitarSchematics1.html#anchor_1032 note that both sets of volume tone are wired almost exactly the same except the right hand tag of the volume on the rear pickup is connected to earth, and the output (middle tag) of that same volume is connected to the right hand tag of the other pickups volume. The output of that volume (middle tag) goes to the jack socket output. The switch then connects with the center (common connection) connected to the right hand tag of the volume (where the two volumes meet), one side of the switch connects to the output of the jack socket (so when it is switched in it shorts out the front pickup) and the other side of the switch connects to earth (so it shorts out the back pickup). AsterL
Thanks for the help Woodinblack, but I'm Still a little perplexed with this. I've got signal coming through for neck and both but only from the neck pick up. I'll type out how the signal chain goes to see if any of you can spot what i'm doing wrong. (I'm ignoring tone pots as i dont have any and I'm got a humbucker at neck position coil tapped) 1. Neck pickup + to left hand lug of Neck pickup pot 2. Neck Pickup pot output to far right lug on switch 3. Neck Pickup - to right hand lug on pot (right hand lug NOT connected to pot casing for ground) 4. Neck Pickup pot right hand lug connected to center position on switch 5. Bridge Pickup + to left hand lug of Bridge Pickup pot 6. Bridge Pickup Pot output to right hand lug of Neck pickup pot 7. Bridge Pickup - to Bridge Pickup Pot casing for ground 8. Bridge Pickup pot Right hand Lug connected to case for ground 9. Bridge pickup ground point connected to far left lug of switch 10. Jack Hot connected to far right hand lug on switch 11. Jack ground connected to Far left lug on switch 12. Switch far left lug connect to back centre lug of switch Can anyone see any mistakes in that? Desperate for help on this!!!
Woodinblack
Can anyone see any mistakes in that? Desperate for help on this!!!
Yes. It is nothing like the wiring diagram as per that diagram! I have honestly no idea what you are trying to do with those series of connections. Where did that wiring list come from? How what you have sounds like it would work is that the neck volume would act as a balance between the neck and the bridge, the bridge volume will work the other way round as a volume of the whole guitar (dependant on the exact position of the neck volume) and the switch may or may not work based on the volume. How about this: 1-2: connect the hot of the pickup to the left leg of the relevant pot 3-4: connect the cold of the pickup to the right leg of the relevant pot 5: connect the cold of the bridge pickup to guitar earth 6: connect the earth of the jack socket to the guitar earth 7: connect the left of the switch to the guitar earth 8-9: connect the metal of the volumes to the guitar earth 10: connect the right of the switch to the jack socket out 11: connect the center of the neck volume to the jack socket out (or switch, which ever is more convenient) 12: connect the center of the bridge volume to the right of the neck volume 13: connect the center of the bridge volume to the center of the switch 14: PROFIT! (or better still, just play). Seriously though, would it not be easier to get the right kind of switch? AsterL
Cheers for the response man, i will give that a shot and let you know how that turns out!!
AsterL
No Dice sadly! Double checked all my componets, all fine on there own, even both pickups wired straight to jack! Hmm....
Woodinblack
Do both of your pickups work? why is it so important to not use an on-on-on pickup selector?
AsterL
I just had a On Off On lying about and wanted to try it! but I've bought a ON ON ON switch, so its not trouble.
