gapiro
There are two that I really like (not to say the others are bad, but just dont appeal to me, maybe my tastes are too westernised) but one of those I feel is less towards the inspiration
I chose Ambient , my other favourite was TheBoy, but felt that the picture didn't symbolise hope
Edited September 25, 2013 by gapiro
Roland Rock
All great stuff. For some reason this month I was hankering after something a bit more modern. A lot of them really captured the picture, but Ambient's piece caught my imagination most, closely followed by Skol. Well done all!
Dad3353
Once again, a damned close call... There's not much to reject in all these compo's. A bit of a struggle, weighing up musical appeal, suitability to the photo, technical composition, general 'pezzazz' factor... I had to choose one, so I did, but I'd be just as pleased to see any of the others come out on top. Well done; once again, chaps. It's been a long time since i bought a CD from anywhere but one or other of the forums that I frequent. I'd quite happily buy the CD compilation of all these challenge entries. Really, really top-notch stuff, compared to the bland pop I occasionally come across. Anyone not wanting to know how and why I chose should close their eyes now... I plumped for...
The obvious qualities of all the entries had to be filtered and appraised. I was especially struck by the musical aspect of several, but finally went for lowdown, for so finely (imho, of course...) bringing to the fore the photo. I was pulled towards others for their 'story-telling', or sound-scapes,with extra special mention for Bilbo's haunting, and brave, solo bass, and Skol303's striking adherence to the regional qualities. All had a particular slant, but lowdown represented the photo the best, for me. Excellent.
xilddx
Yeah, some top music yet again, it was very hard to choose. It's a great photo, so many ways to interpret it, but I suppose I expected a proliferation of phrygian mode I really wanted to do mine, but no time. It was going to be an angry comical punky number called 'Who Turned The Fakkin Telly Off?!' There were four here that really got to me, I went with the one that made me feel the most emotional in relation to the subject matter. Great work guys! Mucho Props. lurksalot
After a harrowing evening with my email deciding I was not allowed to enter , and a 30minute call to BT India , changing pay pal passwords as they thought I may have been hacked , and relax ..... but no the soundcloud refuses to produce the sound from the cloud for any of the entries , I will try again tomorrow

lurksalot
Weighed in now , I had to use a different machine , I still have no idea why the lappy wont play them, still, another fine collection. I hear what you mean now Dad , now I ve listened to yours , we picked up on a similar vibe , though my intentions where to have the prayers in as Skol has done , so my choice is a close one as always but I made it . discreet
What strikes me is just how much everyone has improved over recent months, well done. A very difficult choice, but I went for the one which (for me) most suited the atmosphere of the picture, which was Bilbo's entry.
Mornats
Another close one (aren't they all?). Bilbo and lowdown's were top of my list, with a very similar feel. In fact, there were a lot of tracks here that captured the same mood. I'll give a shout out to The Boy for capturing a different "glad to be alive still" feel (that's how interpreted). Dad's (not my real dad) entry deserves an honourable mention too as I loved how he used the guns to form the beat. In the end, lowdown's pipped it for me. That low drone at the beginning summed up the sounds of war going on around you. But I'll be listening to Bilbo's for quite some time. Bilbo
Thanks, guys. My only objective is to give the image a soundtrack. I seem to have achieved that so am happy enough.
gjones
I voted for Lowdown's composition. It had a very melancholy feel with a touch of the middle east about it. I also liked Skol303's composition for the same reason. All the others were excellent, in their own right, but didn't capture the atmosphere of the picture as much as Lowdown's and Skol303's. flyfisher
What an evocative image and, as xilddx has said, so many ways to interpret it. I listened to them in order and, to be honest, found the combination of the excellent soundtracks and the picture a bit too depressing for comfort (and rightly so) and it was only theboy's track that gave me some ray of hope for the future of the guy in the chair amid all that chaos and destruction, so that's where my vote went. But top marks for everyone's interpretation and creativity.
urb
Been so busy with life, work and other music stuff to get anything this month but will do my best to listen to this lot - hopefully before the cut off...! Jeez - must get back on the wagon soon!
dmccombe7
Tracks wont play when soundcloud opens. Only managed to hear Bilbo. Is this a tactic in Bilbo's take over of the BC world - Any ideas on how to hear them or resolve the issue Dave
