Trace 1518 Question

Hello everybody, I'm currently in talks with a fellow BC'er about a trade for his Trace 1518 500w cab for my MAG 410. He has very honestly pointed out that although 1518 is a 500w cab, it's not full range, so Trace recommend that it is paired with another cab to achieve full capacity along with the highs. My question is that, with my Hartke HA3500 delivering 240w at 8ohms, will the cab deliver a decent level of volume for me to gig with, or will I have to pair it with another cab to get the full performance? Any help is much appreciated! Cheers!

I've happily gigged with 15"s but I always felt that I was pushing a single one too much so that is why I generally used two, or a 2x15".

As for adding another cab for the high end, I never felt the need for a big cab with 10"s or whatever but, and this may sound like I'm trying to sell you something that I actually am selling, the Bright Box that Trace Elliot made is IMO is just the ticket.

That was a big, bassy cab with hee haw top end - I used the bright box to get the high end. I also used one with the V-type 4x12" and 2x15" cabs which were big sealed cabs

I used the 1518 by itself and it was fine. It does do highs, it just doesn't have a tweeter. In my opinion, Trace Elliot erroneously have stuck to theory that bigger speakers always have low end and less high end. In fact, the more technically minded folk on here would suggest that mixing large and small speakers is a bad idea anyway.

[/quote] Yeah, I did see your bright Box and I have to say, I am very tempted, just can't really spare the cash at the moment! It would be perfect for what I need/want though!

I ran a bright box for a bit, same as the one pictured above. It gives a top end extension above about 2Khz which could be handy if the 1518 is a bit dull. I never had a 1518 so not sure how they respond but some 15s are running out of steam above that frequency.

Hope that helps. :D
