TomWIC Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 (edited) I've just spotted these two Squier Precisions on Gumtree near me, and I was just curious as to whether anyone owned these or had played them before and could advise me as to their out-of-the-box quality, and what upgrades (if any) you'd recommend were I to purchase one of them. Thanks in advance http://www.gumtree.c...bass/1030973574 http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/fender-squier-precision-bass-1991-korea-will-ship/1033077723 Edited September 25, 2013 by TomWIC Quote
gjones Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 The silver series Squiers are made in Japan. They're excellent quality, they're made of basswood and have great sounding pickups. The necks on the Precisions are slightly narrower at the nut than normal Precisions i.e. 40mm rather than 44mm. £150 is a good price and I'm sure you'd be very happy with your purchase if you bought it. I owned a Silver series Jazz bass and loved it. I don't know much about the Korean ones. Quote
Roland Rock Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 (edited) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/217932-silver-series-squier-precision-black-l200/ Don't know if this is the same one, both are in Essex Actually the scratchplate, bridge, knocks are all different Edited September 25, 2013 by Roland Rock Quote
JapanAxe Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I had a Silver Series Jazz and it was very good indeed, gigged it loads, then sold it to vmaxblues. £150 is a good price I'd say. Quote

Paul S Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 No, not the same bass! The Gumtree one is cheaper than mine!! Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 (edited) The Silver Series is almost certainly the better bass - they were the next model up from the Korean ones in the early 90's and cost a fair bit more. I had a Korean Squier Strat from around the same time, the neck was decent but the pickups and hardware were cheap and the body was plywood (though there are good sounding plywood instruments out there). stjohn Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Buy it. The silver series instruments are absolutely fantastic. The pick ups are a tad cheap but the stuff that matters is all there. Quote
