BetaFunk Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I can see in the future that there's going to be a big market for guitars and basses that have been fortunate enough to have avoided the orbital sander. Quote
chris_b Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 The furniture industry has had "distressing" for years but for me "relicing" is just a huge waste of money. Do lots of gigs, carry your bass in a plastic bag if you have to, but relic your bass the natural way. Quote
Happy Jack Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Plastic bag? Luxury! We 'ad to drag t'bass along motorway wit' piece o' string ... etc. etc. etc. ad infinitum Quote
ras52 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013
MB1. There was a time...
I've got a bass In a bit of a state There's a tear up the front It's red and black I've had it for months If you think it could look good Then I guess it should Quote
ubassman Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Is the opposite to relicing delicing? There seems to be crafty little monkeys hard at work in both Quote

GregBass Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 The world is, indeed, a mad place. New instruments attract a premium if they are deliberately damaged to make them look old, while old instruments attract a premium if they are undamaged so that they look new! Quote
DanEly Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-telecaster-VINTAGE-CLASSIC-BLACK-RELIC-bysquier-/380726480972?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item58a511104c Interesting.. same seller - different account? Wonder why.. Quote
itsmedunc Posted September 27, 2013 Author Posted September 27, 2013 Two days to go and its already reached what it would be worth if it was immaculate! I'm in the wrong trade... Quote
shizznit Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 It's happening in other areas of the musical instrument trade. More so in the brass market. You can now buy saxophones and trumpets that have been relic'd so that they appear that they have been left outside for a couple of weeks. Absolutely daft. Quote

I'm intending to thin out my collection, so will have a tough time finding which ones are old enough to need cleaning up, and which ones are new enough to need distressing! Quote
Thunderbird Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I don't get this relic thing they just look like really abused instruments maybe it is just me as I like to keep my stuff in the best condition I can. Quote
DarkHeart Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 they get wear in the most unusual or should that be `unnatural` of places! Quote
davehux Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I got as far as the JIMI/SRV/Clapton line, before being overcome by the aroma of bovine manure Quote
discreet Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 So does that mean that women will think I'm thirty years younger than I am because I look old..? Quote
discreet Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013
That's just awful!!
I'm sorry... it was just an observation. I don't look that bad really. Quote
