LukeFRC Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 http://imgur.com/a/p0tKn made me want to listen to the album! Quote
gjones Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I like the letter but after listening to the album again thought it was pretty bass light. All I can really hear is bass drum where the bass guitar should be. Quote

paul_5 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I really love Albini's approach to producing albums. Also you can read his diatribe on the music industry as a whole here, entitled "The problem with music" http://www.negativland.com/news/?page_id=17 Quote
Lord Sausage Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 He did the Plant and Page album Walking into Clarksdale which is exceptional and sounds nothing like In Utero, so he ain't talkin bullshit in his letter. Quote
Ruiner Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 (edited) Interesting podcast interview here where he talks about the letter and recording In Utero amongst other things: http://vishkhanna.co...4-steve-albini/ Edited September 27, 2013 by Ruiner Quote
Dave Vader Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 He is definitely the chap for he job. Quote
tedmanzie Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 interesting letter! the band were unhappy with the finished result though i seem to recall? Quote
Ruiner Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Three tracks were remixed by Scott Litt, two of which were chosen over the Albini versions for the album, alledgedly at the bands request. Apparently Krist has gone on record saying that they wanted them to sound more accesible for the radio. Whether or not that was due to label pressure I guess we will never know. Quote
waynepunkdude Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 He then went on to produce the worst Nirvana album. Quote
Lord Sausage Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 They were over rated anyway. You hear they were unhappy with Nevermind being re mixed before release saying it wasn't punk. Then they say how they are pop and then moan when they get an albini punk record. miserable twats! Quote
scalpy Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Great letter, and I loved the record. Starts with Serve the Servants, later goes from Tourettes to All Apologies. The sound of Sixth Form. Quote

Kirky Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Excellent letter, he is the epitome of cool. I saw him support Sonic Youth many years ago in some poorly named band who were good despite their name. Quote
