bluejail
Hi i have a little mystery to solve I recently bought this used vintage 'Made in Japan' badged jazz bass copy. Can anyone help me to identify manufacturer and year it was made ? I have seen many similar looking basses on the net / Aria model 1540, Electra, Greco, Maya, Sakura, Hisonus, Elk BS-490YSB, Fernandes Burny, Columbus / but none of them identical Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated pics: http://s1249.photobu...z%20bass%20copy Probably Columbus made by Matsumoku in 70's Edited September 28, 2013 by bluejail
Silvia Bluejay
Hi, and welcome to BC. I think you may have meant to post this in General Discussion or Bass Guitars as opposed to in this forum?

fleabag
Probably Columbus made by Matsumoku in 70's
Columbus were made by both Matsumoko and Tombo, both Japanese of course. The weird oblong enclosed tuners were very Columbus, but then other old basses from that era could well have used those, but your best guess of Columbus is probably right The woods look poor enough to be a Columbus, which weren't the best quality, unlike Guyatone or Tokai of the same era, which were much better built Edited September 28, 2013 by fleabag
DarkHeart
the neck is probably off a different guitar to the body judging by the truss rod access on the body and the fact that it has a truss rod cover on the headstock.
Spike Vincent
Not sure what it is,however it bears little resemblance to my Columbus Precision of the same era.
ash
I reckon it's either a Grant or a Status (no not that Status) both importer badged cheapish basses judging by the materials.
geoffbyrne
I'd guess that the neck is Fujigen, as many of the early Antoria/Ibanez basses had a similar truss rod cover, but they (usually) didn't have a plywood body like this, so it may well have been Matsimoku.
