Oopsdabassist
Fairdeal Music on Smallbrook Queensway, just outside new Street station, Guitar Guitar is about a 15 min walk from there, PMT across town a bit in Saltley, there used to be a small place under the arches near Moor St station, but I forget the name now. Machines
Fair Deal for generic and boring Ibanez, Squier and Yamaha basses. PMT for the same plus a few good Fenders, Musicman and Sandberg. GuitarGuitar for all of the above minus Sandberg but in place is Lakland and Sadowsky. Guess which wins for me.
Nibody
Used to ba a Bass Center under the arches near where there used to be a Musical Exchanges... I think both are now gone. PMT is ok

I think both are now gone. PMT is ok [/quote] Yep, both gone now. I've found the PMT guys to be very friendly and not at all poseycand patronising. But I've never bought a bass there - just extras such as strap locks etc and a few music books.
Machines
I've been going to PMT for about 10 years and think whilst their stock is decent the staff have changed. Went a couple of times with money to spend and walked out as I couldn't find someone to serve me.
seashell
That's a shame Machines. Maybe they're just under staffed.? I 've always found them to be really nice. And as a mature woman but a bit of a novice bass player I sometimes find music shops a bit intimidating. But the PMT guys always seem friendly. Machines
They are friendly. And good at hiding.

stingrayPete1977
I'd keep going on the m6 and go to bass direct
