Funky Dunky Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Seriously? £169 for a Tobias designed bass? Saw a demo on youtube, sounds alright for that kind of money. What's the catch? Anyone got one/tried one? Opinions? Quote
discreet Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 No, but I'm a bit baffled as well. You can buy one for £139 if you have yellow. http://www.thomann.de/gb/epiphone_toby_deluxe_iv_bass_tas.htm Quote
AndyTravis Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Great basses for the money. I've played a fair few, there's even a YouTube video of me playing one strung as a piccolo bass somewhere on YouTube. Stock strings aren't the best, but they're good. Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I was really impressed with both feel and sound when I played one a while ago. Superb value for money, and I often point beginner students toward them Quote
coolcamera Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I have the 4 string standard into an Ampeg amp and after new string, this bass sounds really good. Would new pups make or break it? Possibly. But i'll wait awhile for some Fender or EMG's. Maybe. Quote
LITTLEWING Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I bought one for £169 in walnut a few months back and for the money it's absolutely awesome. I was looking for a spare bass for gigs and tried a few very underwhelming Ibanez's when I spotted a Toby hanging nearby. The second I plugged into the shop's combo the depth and clarity and character hit me, followed by the butter-like ease and speed of runs I could suddenly achieve on the very grin-inducing neck. The active bass control is just sublime and reminded me of the sweet Music Man palette. What amazed me recently was the overall punchiness that came over clear as a bell on a video someone did of a few live covers on a simple iPhone. If the price tag was in the five hundreds I would still have bought it. It is honestly that good to me. Quote
neepheid Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I tried one in a shop in Edinburgh - and really liked it. If they had the colour I wanted in stock I'd have been out the door with it, I'm pretty sure. Quote
